If you've received the output of an AGPL-3 program after requesting it through a network, you have interacted with that program through a network. Why does it matter that it's gone through several API layers, a queue, an email sys

It feels like fly is trying to repeat a growth model that worked 20 years ago: throw interesting toys at engineers, then wait for engineers to recommend their services as they move on in their careers. Part of that playbook is the old Move

I've definitely been to a LAN party where IP addresses were written on clothes pegs by the entrance. You take a peg on your way in, clip it to your ethernet cable, configure that IP statically!

This is pleasingly insane, congratulations! Is there a program to test the fairness of a given dice or coin? Is that a program that's even feasible to write?

I can't even follow what's going on here, and I used to be an expert in software licensing drama. All I see is a bunch of unilateral actions driven by Matt Mullenweg that breaks so many implicit promises of how a free software ste

It's an anti-avoidance measure from when IT contractors benefited from (historically) lower business taxes while taking no actual business risks. The rules are lengthy because they're trying to be precise. If you read the guidance

I genuinely think that is the best Archimedes-only game, just pure arcade fun with split screen dogfights. Such an amazing technical grounding. In 1990!

I designed a similar system 10 years ago at Bytemark which worked for a few thousand VMs, ran for about 12 years. It called BigV [1]. It might still be running (any customers here still?). I think the new owners tried to shut it down but c

The simplest trick for detecting old ARM emulation - ISTR was used on some Gameboy Advance copy protection: store a booby-trap instruction at PC+4 (i.e. the very next one). A real ARM has a pipeline that reads PC+8, while decoding PC+4 and

I feel what we're all saying is that the security risks of amassing all this data are very unlikely to offset the small benefit of being able to remember something you did last week. Given that the benefits are few, there's no bet

No, not seriously. TFA says it's encrypted at rest, with Bitlocker. When running, the data is accessible only to the SYSTEM user. That's exactly how I'd expect to implement this on Windows, I'm not sure what else you co

Whoa, in the UK they changed Coca Cola to contain "only" 11.4g carbohydrates. I think that was a response to the Soft Drinks Industry Levy of 2018. To me it tastes the same but without the stickiness that made me want to brush my
