There's something missing in this, I think, which is exactly what about the experience makes in-person retail work. Compare buying a book at a bookstore to buying it on Amazon or bn.com. Still, 20 years later, it's only good onlin

This is not about making it easier to get deliveries. When an Amazon delivery doesn't work out, they refund you. This is about reducing Amazon's costs. Don't do it. As long as we all don't do it, Amazon will credit us wh

Reminder that patio11 might be saying all these things without trying to imply value. I.e., he's not necessarily saying any of these things are good and bad; the "obvious" part is just that they are true.

This is really the key point of the article (or maybe one of two, the other being Cuddy's unwillingness to accept change in favor of continuing to survive on her unsupported results); and the overall message is that we all do dumb thin

It's contextual. If a person developed a situation in which a creative work was produced, i.e. the direction was instrumental in the resulting work, then possibly yes. Think of reality TV. Unscripted, but produced, and absolutely copyr

I know some authors and some agents. No editors. But the authors and agents tell me that it's rare for editors actually to do what we usually call "editing." It's more about selection and promotion, a lot of the time. So

Does anyone know what's going on inside Elsevier? Publicly at least, they're acting like the music industry acted in the 90s. Are they doing anything internally to make sure they stay in business in ten years, other than fighting

I don't doubt it! I just can't imagine that half a grape is safer than a whole grape for small kids.

This is not in Uber's interest. From their perspective the purpose of the surge is to get more cars on the road. They don't care about drivers, they care about fares (riders).

Do you have kids? Everybody thinks everything causes choking. People stop you on the street to tell you how to feed your toddlers. Grapes were particularly suspect in our neighborhood. People cut them in half, believing it was safer. You ar

Nice! BTW I've never found a really nice, easy way to draw up organizational hierarchy charts (I've always used Dia or similar, and that's fussy), and I guess it's the same thing more or less?
