To be honest, I don't think that's a very fair comparison time:distance wise. Cambridge is infamously time consuming to get to by train and that's a very good route in Spain, they are not all that quick. For example Peterboro

The chromecast ultra comes with a 5w power supply (I know, I have one and just checked) so this cannot be true. I don't know about you but I literally don't care about 5w, it's getting converted to heat anyway just a bit less

I regret the wording, apologies if it comes across negatively, but sometimes you can surprise people if you market as open source and then when reading the licence people find out it's actually more "opensource-ish". As far a

It's really interesting. I just sync state and store short term cache in redis, it's what I do when building any internal API anyway, so why any different with an external API. API servers sit behind a load balancer.

What is the main benefit to running a gateway? Auth should already be handled by the api and adding things like rate limiting, ip address filtering ,caching and so on are ridiculously trivial..

Exactly, it doesn't exist yet and im extremely sceptical it ever would. It makes me lose trust in the rest of the article. Shame.

Love this idea, but Wow.. those are some crazy CPM numbers. Would it not be a better idea to shoot for CPC?

I think it's the exact opposite. They seem to have too many customers. Adsl isn't comparative speed wise. I find it interesting the 10€ per 100GB and the discount by 50€. So if you have the same €100 euro budget then you can buy 7

An incredible deal, would be thousands a month for much worse service with traditional satellite providers. Typical 1G FTTP in uk is around £35 but you won't be able to get that in a RV half way up a mountain.

Not for FTTP :). In the UK we mostly have XGS PON or GPON with maybe a few hundred thousand active ethernet lines. You can always order a 1Gb service, sometimes a 2.5Gb or 3Gb service rarely a 10Gb service at consumer prices if you have FTT

Sounds like you have a nearly perfect line and very close to the Cabinet? In the UK lines can typically be 500M while worst case may be 1KM or more from the Cabinet. We do have alot of aluminium or cca based lines as well due to copper cons

This! Weirdly I think this anti-cookie movement is actually really bad for smaller Web properties. They will no longer be able to track you much if at all. The likes of Google, Facebook, Tiktok or Snapchat will still be able to just fine th

Interesting, and what speeds can a average customer on the top tier actually get? In the UK the fastest profile used is 17a, which is then capped by our telco at 80 down 20 up line rate. The reality is that only a few percent of users actua

I think they are doing OK. Delivering even 30-100Mbps to half a million customers all over the world is no mean feat. Complaining that your speeds dip below 100Mbps on a unmetred low latancy satellite connection is just pathological. Most

I have briefly evaluated a few of these in the last month (focusing only on TS or Python) or so and have ended up convincing myself I need to go down the path of building bits I need in my own way. Consider this only constrictive criticism
