That's interesting. For companies I have approached recently it was the first question they asked. Maybe it depends on the kind of company (for me it was mainly start-ups).

I think this is a great way of hiring people. With certain caveats of course: your company must give candidates, preferably one at a time, an honest chance and not exploit them to get leaky roofs fixed for free.

I agree reality is probably more subtle that this, but I do feel that there is too much emphasis on public repositories in application processes. It's probably more common for recent graduates to have public repositories than for the m

Thanks. I did get the impression when I looked at it a year ago that it was hastily put together to fill a market demand. Good luck!

I think any of these things (1, 2, 3) are commendable, but expecting any of them is like only hiring a plumber if he has completed any good plumbing projects in his spare time. I find it completely bizarre this has now become the standard i

I think this is one of the most sensible replies. You only need to look at a HN 'who is hiring' thread though to see these kind of companies are pretty nonexistent.

What made you want to pivot from Xamarin? Did you find there is a lack of opportunities, or do you dislike the technology? As someone who is looking into moving to Xamarin development I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

That's exactly what I would associate Android with- cheap, low quality and pervasive.

Management have the misguided notion that if you adopt the Agile methodology (TM) you will deliver successful software projects. Loads of people uninterested in software engineering and technology follow agile training and the end result is

Tangential question- I'm in the UK and I am keen to become a iOS developer (I'm currently a senior .NET developer in a large firm). Are there enough opportunities remaining in iOS development as a contractor / creator of (&#x

I totally agree (well I do think OOP is less of a snake oil than Agile). There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Agile Manifesto, but this can not be said of the industry that was created on the back of it.

The first realization should be that Agile is not a silver bullet and is not needed to build great software. Great software was built before Agile existed. People who care passionately about technology and software build great software. On

I have to say I agree. I'm only familiar with his recent writings but they didn't strike me as very original or standout reporting, so I don't get the adoration. I also found some of his on-stage tech interviews rather lackin

Wow, that is a thorough debunking of an article. My comment was kind of flippant but you have obviously researched this properly. I'm in the UK, and I have been for a while, but it is interesting you mention Belgium. When I was working

Ah OK, I didn't really know how they compare. I suppose it is an attractive proposition if it really is an all-electric alternative to a BMW 3 series at a comparable price. I love the minimalist interior of the Tesla, and I sure would

Well that is what I thought until I read this article: https://www.theverge.com/2017/7/31/16069960/tesla-model-3-no... You are looking at $55000 if you want comfort levels comparable to a BMW 3 series? I

I'm not naive and understand the sentiment that part of Apple's motivation behind not supporting these API's on mobile Safari is to protect its App Store ecosystem. BUT I also believe that Apple cares deeply about quality and

This looks hilariously ugly compared to the now three-year-old Mac mini. HP just does not seem to be able to get industrial design right.

Is Metal not squarely aimed at iOS developers though? iOS (casual) gaming is a sizeable market- I doubt it was developed with macOS as its primary focus.

Would you consider migration to a (C#) .NET based solution with either a web-based or WPF / UWP front-end? I can't imagine keyboard shortcuts being an issue with either one of these choices.

I have only been exposed to Dynamics CRM (Dynamics CRM 2011 through to Dynamics 365) I must admit. I can't imagine the experience for these other product strands to be much better for developers let alone users though.
