Audio compression is generally not used for production audio (film sound, television etc), but on occasion they'll use MPEG2 for remote transmission. This is a lossy codec but sounds better than the example provided, albeit at 128kbps so I'

Since the men get Mad Girlfriend and Hooker Code, I'd like to add 'Old Boys Club': libraries that you will never for the life of you get to work on modern operating systems and force you to stay on Python 2.4.

For those looking for a replacement: http://postbox-inc . I actually just switched a week ago from Sparrow because I wasn't happy with the way it makes unread mail disappear all the time. I'm growing to love PostBox, and the experience is

What are the scaling differences between MySQL and PostgreSQL? That's the main reason we haven't shifted and we have a new project coming up that I've been interested to use PostgreSQL with as one our developers prefers it, but are we openi

I swear by FlairBuilder. We've built complex sites using this for prototyping and the learning curve isn't high at all.

He's not an idiot. Maybe he has to give up his multi-million dollar house but him and his group of highly-technical colleagues have not a lot holding them back this minute from starting over, aside perhaps initial funding for hosting.

We just tried this out for hiring and it worked amazingly, we could all see at a glance who the obvious candidates were and kept a nice collection of votes for us so we didn't have to send out an annoying email every day.

This completely depends on the type of business. For us, all tech support calls are considered sales calls because we charge for tech support. "People get aggressive or aggravated; people are depressed or crying. It’s just hard talking to c

I'm curious why you are nervous to install software on OSX? Mac installers should generate a log of everything that has been placed/modified on your computer.

New coders may not really know the value of bug hunting. In a mentoring situation I would stress the bug hunting/fixing should be considered a challenge, not a chore.

Depending on the bug and the stress level, it can certainly be a riveting experience to search for an error deep in your own code. I find it's also an important source of refactoring for me, I take notes about what v2 will not be doing. U

Could Craiglist shut down every single IP who scrapes? Could you build Padmapper to be less 'realtime' and more 'tell me the city and I'll set up a client-side scraper, come back in 15 minutes?'

by marquis 14y ago
Yes, this was a managed DNS service that we rented from our (now cancelled) hosting provider. They deleted it by mistake without telling us, when we asked them to discontinue an old server we were no longer using.
