NP. I spent a lot of time dancing in the Detroit techno scene 1993-95. I love this site.

Not a fan of the intro, but bear with it and poke around. I think you will be pleasantly surprised, especially if you like techno and the like. The author has a pretty good sense of humor too.

Not just you. I think you are right, it probably has something to do with information density. Which does raise an interesting question: Could font size play a role in the audience that you attract and maintain? No doubt 14pt Comic Sans wou

:) You are probably right. I have a small font bias. Thanks for the feedback. Let me know if anything else strikes you one way or the other.

http://hubski.com My site. Still in development, but active. We are pretty eclectic. Join us dammit. :) EDIT: A bit more info: I built Hubski for the very same reasons: I wanted it to exist. The model is a bit different than HN, as you ca

Agreed. As long as the ability to discover new voices is effectively addressed, the ability to follow someone of interest is pretty valuable. Which seems like where you might be going with http://hackerstream.com ? :) Looks nice.

It seems they took a swipe at a lot of services. probably not intentionally, but by rolling up a lot of functionality that has been proven by others into one app.

If Facebook was trying to launch an integrated search engine or a GMail competitor, then I would absolutely agree with you - those products would be inherently limited by the requirement that they tie into and feed back towards Facebook's

I think this is a real issue, and I am glad that DDG is addressing it. This is a more-compelling take on the tracking issue IMO. What I'd really like to see, is a search engine to allow me to do both. I'd like to have a profile (that didn't

Thanks for those very thoughtful suggestions. I am now going to write our assumptions down, and then set out to test them. I also think you are dead-on about the experience being the primary differentiator. The blog aspect is a completely u

http://hubski.com We are in the early stages of a social aggregator. It is built off the HN code in Arc, and the style still looks currently grokked. We are looking at innovative ways to move away from this. Functionally, the site primari

We just need a knob. :) -I'm going to dial the internet back to 4 for awhile. Our online personas treat us like those stupid parties where you have to wear a "Hello, my name is:" sticker. IMHO, every good service is a fragment of your life,

The future isn't in news filtering, it's in better news analysis. I think many would say HN is great because it has lots of quality articles. HN is great because unlike any traditional news source, you can have an analysis that no one news

Ha! I like the 'content-wise' disclaimer. It's a bit of an ugly duckling, and I'm working on that. As for the content, thanks. Slowly but surely... It's funny. Sometimes I think our small group is in a competition, trying to one-up each oth

Thanks. It's unproven at scale, but so far, so good! IMHO it's more effective to make water flow where you want, rather than to keep it from flowing where you don't. :) A little of both is necessary, but I think the first approach has more

There are many non-religious people who quietly carry a burden. For me, it happened when I was young, and in light of 'adult guidance', the guilt I felt for my alternate vision of the world was intense.
