But ... the social imposition! Christ, what a socially awkward penguin the author must be. Here's a tip: You don't need to respond to a message just because someone can see that you've read it. Full stop. Email, SMS/iMes

FWIW: https://github.com/mannkind/IMAPEncrypt It works, but it's cobbled together and still has some issues I haven't been able to resolve.

It's a shame iCloud backups aren't encrypted, but the only information that seems newsworthy is the fact that it takes so little to reset an AppleID password. Although I suppose if the intruder knows the AppleID and last-four of

Funny … I've been writing a python script that uses IMAP IDLE to monitor your inbox and encrypt incoming email (while retaining from/subject/date) and delete the plaintext version. Unfortunately sometimes the IDLE errors and

The excuse that "relationships suffer" when using a different communication method is ridiculous. Now more than ever as people use it to justify whatever they want. Face-to-face is better, my relationships suffer when I communicate via phon

"I realize that Tor can't be used on iOS without jailbreaking it" Not quite true. While Tor can't be used for all traffic, there are Tor apps -- OnionBrowser works quite well; I just tried it.

Couldn't have said it better myself; I had the exact same experience. I'll probably never step foot in there again now that they're going back to their ridiculous pricing strategy.

Almost every single 'issue' on this page is nonsensical FUD. 1&2 - Let's not trust Amazon's system but instead just some other random company! 3. Deduplication as an invasion of privacy? Last I checked it didn't work across users (as th

I wish it worked that way on iOS; I'm not sure what Google is doing with the app that prevents it ... other apps+accounts work just fine after restoring from backup.

Nope :/ I've had to do it twice now (once for an upgrade and once for a defective-phone replacement) and both times, after restoring from iCloud, Google Authenticator was empty. It's not a dealbreaker, but it's still a big inconvenience. I

Really? Is it really that different to double tap a hardware button than it is to tap one? You must feel the same way about single-vs-double clicking a mouse then, I suppose ... because it's the exact same thing.

Heh, the author of this article may be exaggerating a bit. The carrier sim can block access to the apn/mms settings; an AT&T sim usually does. I've used the sim-swap trick (with a t-mobile sim) on my iPhone 4S to change the apn without

It's certainly true that Apple even allowing such a thing to happen is broken (the device should reject app updates it can't run). But that something like that could happen still doesn't make the iPad a paperweight. People will happily

Have you ever watched someone organize their own files on disk? Copy files between disks/USB drives? Try to copy a file between two machines (yes, even on Windows)? Or get lost in settings or configuration files? People, typical people, do.
