Michael W. Lucas is such a good author, and I just wanted to give a shout-out: "TLS Mastery" opened my eyes to the world of TLS / SSL certs in an understandable way that used interactive examples on Linux.

I've only watched Tim Cook's introduction, but it sounds like his voice is being shifted (autotuned) to sound pitch-perfect. It's pretty uncanny valley and off-putting imho.

It sounds like this failure led to the complete destruction of 3 online communities. While this might not be as bad as, say, a fatal multi-car accident on the highway, I bet it led to some heavy grief as users mourned the losses of their co

Totally true! I would love to see that. In practice, I doubt that will happen because contributing to GnuCash seems to require a lot of nuanced understanding of their very old codebase and build system. OP's PDF generator is a web app,

I'm the OP for post [0], and I feel the need to explain myself: I made that fold-in 2 days ago just for fun, but then it became a timely joke. So, I scrambled very quickly to throw it into an HTML page with basic CSS so I could post to

If anyone is looking for a comprehensive accounting tool for personal finance or small business, GnuCash also has the ability to generate invoices. In my opinion, the PDF generator made by OP makes way more beautiful invoices than GnuCash.

Thanks for the kind words! Your comment made my day. I used to get a kick out of the fold-ins too, and I feel lucky that we live in the Internet Age where I can bet that any idea I have (CSS MAD fold-in) has likely been done better than I&#

I read the same books you did, and I was equally unsatisfied afterwards. The "Using Asyncio in Python 3" book was good enough to help me write some code that had to hit an API 400k times without blocking, but I never returned to a

That's a good point, a computer is probably more screwdriver and less jackhammer. I still dislike companies that externalize their costs to their employees, but I do agree my analogy was slightly off. Funny, I actually mentioned Snap-O

That's true. And for new mechanics that don't have their own tools yet, there are vendors like Snap-On that drive tool trucks to different garages will sell them tools on a payment plan. This creates a situation where a person in

My college professors said that an encyclopedia article can't be cited because it's a tertiary source of information. That's considered too far abstracted from the original source of the info to be used as a citation. Primary

I wish there were such a website, but I haven't seen one. That's unfortunate, because I often feel the need to skip the comments sections on HN for economics-related posts. There are many armchair economists here, mostly with a pu

I recently bought a System76 Oryx Pro 9, and I could not for the life of me get Debian to boot from a USB. The same USB booted on my old Galago Pro, so I know it was good. The Oryx Pro runs on some FOSS UEFI or BIOS made by System76 themsel
