This is a great example of following the letter of a standard, but not the spirit.

I would have thought "patent troll" typically describes patent owners who produce no actual products, and only hold patents with the intention of extracting money from others. Apple clearly does produce actual products.

The guy behind Atomontage has stated that he's got his engine averaging less than one bit per voxel (he estimates 753 bits or less per 1000 voxels)[1] by applying a variety of compression mechanisms[2], so at least that part of Notch's as

I think the videos on the Atomontage channel show something I can actually see being a game, for example it shows destructible environments and terrain deformation, editing tools, and clever use of simulated DoF and a gameplay perspective t

Every time this comes up I like to point people to the Atomontage Engine[1], which takes (what I think is) a more pragmatic approach, combining voxel and polygon graphics. Voxels are used where appropriate (eg. landscape, destructible build

I am working on something similar to this, though I've implemented a renderer like that of a game, with all visible elements being rendered at 30 fps, foregoing DOM manipulation for writing HTML text directly to innerHTML[1], and culling no

The issue is not with blocking access to Google+, it is with the (impending) deletion of his ~2 years worth of emails. I don't believe you need to be 13 years old to use email, I know I was using it at around Alex's age.

I've been working on a Doom/Build style game engine for the browser so I've been reading Abrash's Graphics Programming Black Book[1] which has been very insightful. It covers key aspects of the development of Doom and Quake, and I highly re

My aggregator/filter for Australian news stories is http://www.reddit.com/r/australia/ Beware the comments threads though, there be dragons, and rather cynical people.

I really wouldn't recommend The Australian. This is a newspaper who have stated in editorial that it is their goal to "destroy" the Australian Greens party. Agenda runs thick in their editorial decisions.

I would expand that: The general level of reader commentary on newspaper websites is pretty pathetic, no matter what the subject matter is.

This is an article on a mainstream newspaper's website. Despite what they might think of themselves, the reader base mainly consists of people who know rather little about how computers and the internet work.

"Full Screen Mode" is not really about full screen. It is an attempt to simplify the concept of virtual desktops, making it more intuitable to ordinary humans, while also putting applications or tasks into a linear arrangement so that they

I was pretty sure iAds only ran in native apps and hence could use OpenGL directly And that would be the flawed assumption that has led to your confusion. iAds are built with HTML/CSS/JS only, not native code.

I'm amazed that people are taking offense to my mentioning of the "F-word". Have people already forgotten what Java applets entail? At least with Flash, getting people to install/update it on demand is not entirely unlikely.

When I say "in most situations" my implication is that for most 3D applications in the browser such low level interaction with the 3D API is not necessary. Most people building things with WebGL in the future will not be working with WebGL

Adobe are adding their own "Stage3D" API (aka Molehill) to Flash. I realise that there are some situations where you want an "OpenGL-alike" like WebGL (especially if you're porting something already written in OpenGL). However, for most use

Once flexbox, grids and calc come out as official specs, you'll still have to wait until all browsers implements them, and then wait again until enough users update How would the situation be any different for AXR?
