The ones on my wireless keyboard are easily visible as individual holes when the light is on from 2 feet away. I don't know if the iSight is different (not having a metal macbook), but they are probably very close to the same.

That seems to make no sense at all to me. $50 a month for a db and 2 dynos has to be cheaper than AWS+your time sys-admining everything. Now I'm not saying there aren't other reasons to not use heroku, but yours doesn't seem reasonable to

This reeks of a heavy east coast banker/lawyer mindset. That somehow you have to fit in and play by the rules in order to be a good employee. That if you aren't dressed above business casual you aren't capable or worthwhile enough to be con

It's all personal preference. I hate the laptop form factor in general, but once you add the heat they put off it's a deal breaker for me.

Misunderstanding reconciled! I think "laptop replacement" isn't talking about me and you, it's talking about my mom who spends all her time on facebook or email and casual games and doesn't do a whole lot of other things. I can use google d

Most of the world doesn't need an ssh client, they hardly type much at all, don't care that they can put uber-linux 2.8.7.rockin-beta.rc18 on it, never hook anything more than a camera up to it and, well, yes, there is the money bit. I'm a

Last november I was sitting around with time on my hands and decided to update my LinkedIn profile. I wrote a long-form, pseudo-essay resume. A week later I got a call from a recruiter who hooked me up with one interview. Another week af

Sendgrid would not reliably send our emails fast enough. We were getting queued for any gmail address we were sending too and sendgrid told us that there was nothing they could do about it. Since we have a requirement to get into peoples

It's not devolving into Calcutta for sure, but certainly a nation with the wealth that we have can (and I'd argue should) provide a much higher standard of living for the members of society on the lowest rung of the ladder. If not by direc

I'm aware as we are running on heroku here, but it gets expensive quick and your options are more limited than if you roll your own. Then again, that goes for the whole platform.

They are only allowing Python and PHP for facebook apps right now. So no, you didn't miss it as it didn't happen. Today's announcement probably means it will happen in the near future though.

Are you on the shared hosting DB plan? Are you using more than 1 dyno? We are running 4 dynos, 2 workers, and the Ronin DB plan and we haven't had any problems other than a 10 minute downtime due to a bad deploy by Heroku.

Probably that the cheap plans are on shared DBs and it's very expensive to use dedicated DBs and the dedicated boxes appear to be single instances of Postgres. I'm not complaining, but what is the official Heroku approach to things like DB

We use Heroku with a Cloudfront cdn and we wrote a small ruby script that uploads our assets to cloud front, pushes code to Heroku, and runs db migrations. We just thought rolling our own was the easiest thing to do given the simplicity of

People have been buying cars forever. New cars only come out once a year. Cars are very feature/price segregated (on equivalent models). The phone market isn't like that at all. Smartphone's are only a couple years old. New android device

How common is that case? I'm probably on the opposite extreme (never have watched a movie or tv show on my iphone nor any youtube video longer than about 3 minutes), but I'd be shocked if long video watching was a common case.

Two things that strike me. First, what is the back of the hand thing all about? Is it less sensitive? Is it somehow less demeaning? It doesn't make sense to me. Second, if he "made contact" and then immediately retreated...what did he ma

What about borrowing some ideas from new twitter? I really like the way the official ipad client works. Maybe a listing with a short quip/headline under each picture/name and then a slide-out pane with more in depth info on the person.

The thing is you scale to meet demand. But unless you have a truly amazing product then you don't have to worry about that right away. Sure, you may scale up to 4 dynos to handle a techcrunch mention (or something like that), at $0.20 an
