"If the user wants to do this, they will do this" - perfectly acceptable. "They" and "them", can be plural and singular.

But then you're forcing an organisation style/hierarchy because of a tech problem. If I want all my developers to be able to access production directly for quick development, then that should be possible

Sometimes learning on older technologies is very helpful to learning more of the fundamentals than learning practical skills directly. For example I studied how to program assembly code for an STM32F0 microprocessor. Would never do that in

Nice stuff. Raspberry Pis are generally pretty terrible at running servo's though. Adding an intermediate Arduino would work wonders (I appreciate the complexity would jump significantly though)
