Most of the midwit memes I see on programming are : - beginner "lets write simple, to the point code" - midwit: noo let's have many layers of abstraction just in case - jedi: let's write simple, to the point code

As a hobby I created in 2014 a console on a single microcontroller that does exactly that, with VGA resolution https://bitboxconsole.blogspot.com/

That's where realtime and fast differ : you can consider there's a "hard"-er real-time at 100ms by example, where you can drop some frames but you don't want to block the ui. Be slow but don't block the UI.

Also everywhere you want smooth gradients on any application. Go search gradient rendering without banding by example. Dithering will almost certainly be mentioned.

Decoding a black and white compressed image using a two color palette is essentially free. You have to paint a bit to a color, might as well choose #ff00ff instead of #111111 for "black"

ESP32 chips also need external SPI Flash, and many STM32 have little flash and QuadSPI with execute from external flash capabilities, so I don't see this as a specificity of RP2040.

I agree simplicity is king. But you're comparing making a script using dependencies and tooling for those dependencies and a C program with no dependencies. You can download a simple python script and run it directly if it has no depen

Nice! So what this means is that you put all info for flashing a part of flash in a 512 byte sector so you don't need filesystem info (place within file, even order) since it's all written as a bunch of self contained 512 bytes co
