Are you sure the discount is not due to different taxes applying? In my country, there is a 19% tax on most goods and services, but only a 6% or so tax on food. Sitting down means you pay the high tax, and takeout means you pay the low tax.

Interesting. My latest info was an income difference that is far smaller (around factor 2 to 4 in tech jobs). Thanks for the update.

I'm German, can confirm the replacements you mention is universally understood here. In case you ever want to type German, have a look at using the US-Int layout on your US keyboard. It adds keyboard combinations like Alt+S = ß, "

I kind of disagree. His reaction will reach only a tiny fraction of the readers of the piece, and mostly those who are already in doubt. In the country I live in, it is usual (I believe voluntarily mandatory) for a newspapers to publish a r

You mean well, but to be entirely honest, I'm happy if the 20Mb sentiment persists. Because no matter what you do, there will always be some people who cannot get gigabit (physical limitations, work abroad, etc.), but nobody cares abou

I wish it were as you say. Effectively, at least a facebook account was needed at two of the universities I was at. I've also seen instances of important (even life threatening) information being transmitted via social networks, exclus

Re AdblockPlus, I can recommend Ublock Origin instead. The UBO developer (Raymond Hill) repeatedly chose ethical behavior over money.

I'm confused. I don't know why you're incapable of falling for optical illusions, but that video did not have one. It explained the concept of attention blindness. If you look for something else, then you may miss the gorilla

Well you're certainly right that it's easy to want to downvote your statement. I'd like to learn: Can you explain what the advantages of the dominant marriages are? Since you mention Islam, I assume you're the dominant o

To point out just one thing: Why do you think it is ok to ignore votes that arrived late but not too late to be counted? Is that not more like a technicality only? These are, even if late, votes by people.

But in this case, the (Chinese) government induced a company to annoy an employee. That actually is an assault on free-speech, because it was not the company itself that decided to do so. If this is allowed, then what would prevent the US g

If you are desperate for feedback, pay them for providing it. If it's not worth that to you, then don't annoy them.

What are you talking about? All German phone plans I've ever seen renew for 12 months, not 24. Only the very first period after signup is 24 months. And you most likely have to cancel while at least 90 days remain in the current period

I thought we are doing this free market thing here ;) So just send them an offer of a large discount in return for feedback. Simple, not expensive, not intrusive - win win.

The point was: If they have the power to increase prices because taxes increased, then why do they not increase prices because they want to earn more? If they do have the power, they should get as much as possible! And that's the thing

To clarify: According to German law, any sexualized content in any media (including text) containing persons who can reasonably be thought of as below the age of 18 are illegal. Here, 'thought of' is quite literal and is allowed t

That's not how it works. Young people want to acquire resources to be able to successfully grow old (i.e. survive). Once they are old (i.e. had gotten the resources to become old), they don't need to get these resources anymore -
