There is a salt mine in Kansas too, 600 feet underground. Neat tour. I seem to recall seeing a Cylon from the original Battlestar Galactica down there. https://www.underkansas.org/ Also a yearly midnight ride through lime

Most have a Molex brand connector, though nothing > 50 VDC. I use a lot of the Molex Pico-Lock connectors, and similar sizes; all board level stuff. What I was revering to in the above post is the susceptibility to breakdown and corona

Ha ha, I guess the modes in WSJT-X. I know JT65 is one. At least with PSK31 you are typing in real-time. With JT65 it’s fully automated. Ought to only be counted as a contact when it’s below the 2.5 kHz noise bandwidth. When I can hear

No it shouldn’t. It’s amateur radio, and an amateur should not have to develop an OFDM modem with LDPC coding, just to experiment. They should be able to cobble together a single tube radio and have fun, while learning something. You don

Well at least with SSB and CW you have a short conversation. JT8, etc, have reduced “contacts” to a few bytes. Don’t get me wrong, pushing the Shannon capacity limit is great, but I’ll wager many stations are not even running QRP for the n

As the beam diverges, you need larger and larger receive antennas to discriminate between the modes, more aperture than you need to compensate for path loss. That seems to be why OAM research is now mmWave (better collimating) and more appl

Electrochemical migration is an issue in high-rel PCBs, though I don’t think that is true electro migration from charge carriers. Silver and tin dendrites have failed satellites.

I take issue with this article. Electrons do bunch up on sharp corners, as far as high voltage design is concerned. Sharp corners cause inductance when the current has to “turn the corner”. An infinitely sharp edge would have infinite indu

Unfortunately this will just make it more difficult to get real work done, as security is tightened further. Maybe they just ought to physically isolate their networks. Working at a large engineering organization, I have given up and now d

Using one for a DMR (ham radio) hotspot. Plan on using one for a GPSDO data monitoring. The problem with the RPi is the SD card file system. It’s just not reliable enough. I have had better luck with the Beaglebone Black, which as on-boar

I suppose I’ll get downvoted, but I remember visiting the Outer Banks for the first time in the mid 70’s (also taking the ferry to Okrakoke). Interestingly (scientifically) there was a noticeable number of congenital defects in the populat

I built this stereo amp kit a few months ago. Uses single ended 300B tubes with class A bias. Very high quality kit and manual, though I expected that from Japan. Fed directly with a CD player. https://www.elekit.co.jp/en

I believe Spot is owned by Globalstar (the satellite network). Garmin would have to establish their own network to truly compete.

I’d think the beam width is much narrower, as it’s probably operating at X-band or higher. Given it’s a solid reflector, as opposed to mesh, and using a sub-reflector (which would be several wavelengths in diameter).

Why is Toyota so far behind the other manufacturers, despite having a initial lead in hybrids? Were they just betting that EVs would flop? Even Honda, which is a hold-out, has the Clarity which is a nice car (we have a Clarity and Leaf).
