They had this requirement at KU in the 90’s, but a computer “language” satisfied the requirement.

Someday a method/implant will be invented to trigger the orgasmic response in the brain. Will be interesting to see how humanity handles that drug. Reminds me of Star Trek DS9, where the Cardassian tailor had the brain implant to make

How does an F-14 and others of the same vintage fly? Isn't that all hydraulic servos? Not trying to be an ass, just curious.

See my response above about the FM modulation; I don't think it will work like that; it would be AM. Assuming the resonator diaphragm is linear and small signal (WRT to the sound pressure), you won't get a radiated carrier 2nd ha

Ha ha, I know how a Yagi works; 25 years of RF/Microwave circuit and antenna design. I don't see how you are going to get FM modulation out of this thing. This is akin to passing a CW tone through a filter at it's cutoff, t

“Lockheed Martin plans to implement a software fix for the flight control system.” Now where have we heard that before. Software patches to fix inherently unstable hardware. Move fast and break shit.

Maybe someday the Soviet side of things will be declassified, and we can read the technical account from that end. Would be interesting. There seem to be some technical unknowns in the article. I don’t think you can get FM back from the p

They claim to have not stopped in KC, but in my area, the city has lengthened right-of-way permits out to 2025. Those were typically only issued for 1 year. http://overlandpark.maps.arcgis.com/apps/Viewer/index.ht

Prior to Backblaze, I used another service that shipped me a hard drive for the initial seed. 1 TB is painfully slow on my 100/5 connection. Unfortunately they stopped all home sales, so it took weeks to seed to Backblaze. Google and

It’s not simple though. There are are instabilities that can happen in the grid; distributed, dynamic, nonlinear circuit.

Looks like the high capacitance are the longest lead, which is what I have been finding. 10 uF and up in 0603 are hard to get.

Well that is sort of a misnomer, as it depends on your receiver bandwidth. They always say such and such modulation (say JT65) is "under the noise floor". Of course it is when your bandwidth definition is 2.5 KHz (an HF SSB chan

Neat. Lots on electrical, though not much on gas pipelines (natural and gasoline). There are some strange ones too, such as fertilizer, that are not mapped.

Well they typically don’t make 500 ft^2 homes for $1M, but you can find 500 ft^2 apartments for $3k/month. I think a house has a minimum size, thus a minimum price over that of rent.

Sourcing high value MLCC capacitors is a real problem. I often design something into my board, only to find out it has gone out of stock. It’s like playing whack-a-mole.

A CT is about 1 rem of exposure. It takes 2500 rem to cause a cancer (the linear approximation). So every 2500 CT scans you have given someone cancer.

Sure, but typically bit-wise multiply by XOR is used, at least with spread spectrum and many forward error correction.

Interesting that they added the code (random noise) to the data rather than multiply (XOR). I assume this was safe to do since averaging won’t recover much signal when the signal rate and code rate are the same. Also interesting that the

This is not too surprising as analog techniques sometimes require much, much less power, and 8-bit resolution used in these GPUs. A prism can perform a Fourier transform more efficiently than an FPGA, as can a SAW device performing correla

There are 23 year olds who don’t have the technical chops, so rather than being fired, they are put on a management track. This started to happen around 2000. Back when I hired into my company in ‘96 (I’m 47 now and 23 years at the same pl
