Is there any way to see the age of the text on a wikipedia page? Might be a good way to combat the sense that everything on the page is solid. If most of the page is years old except for a couple of sentances from the last two days, I might

I've found this is something that really surprises Europeans. But, once, when I was comparing notes with some travelers in a hostel in New Zealand, we asked a South Korean among us for his perspective. He said that he and everyone he knows

I'm not so sure. I agree that weasel words can destroy a piece of writing, but a complete lack of them can come off badly too. The main effect of killing the qualifiers in your writing is increasing the confidence in the tone of the piece.

I didn't hear any noise about this compared to, say, when Tumblr was down for a similar amount of time. Does that speak accurately to their relative popularity?

Can you expand on that comment? I have no idea what this is supposed to mean. Should this change how we interpret the stock price growth comparison between Microsoft, Apple, and Google? Just thinking about it, I only see two ways in which t

There doesn't seem to be a mention of encryption anywhere. I'm surprised they didn't avail themselves of a little PGP. If a giant notorious terrorist organization isn't using public key cryptography, who is?

I'm pretty sure I agree with that, but I'm not sure the OP would. From the article: > Filmmakers were not content to make movies with video cameras until those cameras could shoot 24p, because video, with its many-frames-per-second, loo

I'm not sure how the amount of data is very related to the importance of the settings on your TV. Now, of course, all these things are sort of ephemeral, so it is pretty difficult to quantify their effect on the viewing experience, but the

To be fair, the screen may have 1% of a theater's surface area, but the angle of view is more like 30 - 40% of what you get in a cinema.[1] I agree that going to see a movie in a theater is superior to seeing one at home but that is no reas

The author's apparent belief that 24fps is the only good way to make movies might be wrong, but his (central) thesis that interpolating / smoothing 24fps video up to higher frame rates is spot on. Regardless of the future popular frame rate

I don't think there is any evidence that Google would not have paid up if they had won with their low bid, they just had no intention of winning the auction. They were confidant someone would pay more. Is that illegal in financial markets?
