I think it might make HN a smaller place. Because the current design of the site puts so little emphasis on usernames, it is difficult to know if a comment I am reading is coming from someone I've read before. Just as in the real world ther

Looks like most HBO shows are available on the German iTunes store. My guess, though, is that they don't post their video there until the DVD's are available. Can anyone confirm how that's worked for HBO in the past?

Really great point. Slightly off topic, the standard for rating systems seems to be 5 stars, but I prefer 4 star systems because they force you to make a +/- choice with no cop out ambivalence choice. I'd be curious to see the same distance

Where Does Gmail live now? Google Docs? If they are lumped together in "social" then that division would seem to be much less focused than the others. And perhaps misnamed.

You're quite right about The Wire. Maybe this is just naturally the way that the art is going to be funded in the future. Really, all television is developed exclusively at the network level. NBC, CBS, and HBO all fund the creation of TV th

Netflix, too, is getting into the production business. http://blog.netflix.com/2011/03/house-of-cards.html I guess it is inevitable, but it makes me sad. What makes either of these developments any different from Comcast trying to buy NBC

Well, I agree that a drastic difference in quality between the two versions of the app invalidates the data from MLB, the grand parent of my post asked why the quality is different between the two. Specifically, wether it is MLB's fault or

While perhaps limitation is a strong word, it is clear that the development environments/tools/api's for the two platforms are very different. Is it not possible that one is simply better suited to producing high quality apps than the other

A well implemented following system could solve a number of problems. The most important feature of this would be to automatically create (or suggest) "follow" connections based on your upvotes. If I upvote someone a few times, suggest I fo

By what measure? If Paul Allen wants people to remember that Bill Gates used to be a dick, and people read his book and do so, maybe that's all the positive expectation he needs. Even if it hurts his own reputation maybe it is worth it to h

Another example: the beetles. Perhaps one of the greatest creative partnerships of all time, churning out two records a year for 7 years, and then were sick of each other and broke up.

Some are famous for bad reasons, but many are famous because they are great. Fame gives you the ability to direct many people's attention where you like, which seems pretty valuable to me, no matter what you do.

Besides the fact that those two apps involve the taking of photos, they couldn't be more different. I don't think Gruber's like of one and dislike of the other can be seen as any kind of hypocrisy. I'm also curious what how his response (or

Fascinating. Dropbox is e first really popular "filesystem in the cloud" so it stands to reason that we are going to start to see services built on top of it. Rally, it is a piece of the old "everyone will have a server" dream. Except, inst
