I would let players construct quests and reward them according to how these are rated and how much they are played. No sure if there should be separate or a combined rating system for constructors/players. Rewards for constructors could be

That has to be the worst analysis of Google's move I have read thus far. Google's move only appears irrational because the very idea of a corporation actually continuously evaluating the morality of it's actions is completely alien to her.

A bit disappointingly it appears that they have also lowered the bar. The concepts thought appears distinctly less advanced compared to previous years when the class was thought using Scheme.

Agree - appears to have been around since Jan 2009, but judging from all the problems people seem to be have getting a simple Clojure install up and running, it does not appear to be well known.

I agree that behavioral economics greatly informs "game mechanics" but I don't think the levers it relies on are all irrational. My utility (pride, sense of accomplishment etc.) from answering questions on stackoverflow.com might far exceed

Is anybody aware of some effective examples of applying game mechanics to apps? (besides those mentioned in the video) The best example I know is stackoverflow.com, which uses votes, badges, reputation etc.

I realize that. I used a business memo as an example of a mainstream document type, not as a ref to "business".

You ignore the qualifier at the end "high ratio of formatting ``business'' to textual content". With that in mind i certainly do not think your assertion is right. The average business memo has - or should have - very little formatting.

Wouldn't it be better to implement a git/subversion... plugin for Textmate/Emacs that does this instead of doing a vcs from scratch? or won't a traditional vcs work as a back-end for this?
