Uber needs the network effect. Lower usage means fewer uber drivers, which means it's harder for me to get a lift, which makes me use something else. So a relatively small dip can cause a collapse un usage.

I took a picture of my thesis which somehow got viral. In a matter of hours the total data used for that image was ~500GB or so. Not viable sharing from my own computer or even my own server. [1] https://m.imgur.com/r/b

My point isn't so much loading data from a remote endpoint, but setting state. As the doc you quote says: componentWillMount should not trigger rerendering, and should have the newest state in the render function. But when you use Redu

We've extracted something like this logic into a higher order function that we use to generate reducers++. Fetching data with Redux is kinda broken, though. If a dispatch is done in componentWillMount, a synchronous update like setting

I'd like to have nested projects as well. For instance I want one top-level having my talks, and then sub projects for each talk. Now I either have to clutter my repos with many small projects, or have one big repo with many folders. W

Those using IE6 also thought it was the best for a long time. Only because developers adhered to it's quirks, though, so stuff worked there (and not in "better browsers"). In the same way people accommodate Safari today, othe

I have the same experience. I fell in almost 120km/h in a slope earlier this year, but know how to not become a ragdoll. I was completely fine, except having to walk far up the hill to retrieve some of my gear.

I think some protection gear make people not learn to fall correctly. For instance wrist protectors for snowboard. When falling lightly without it, you quickly learn not to save yourself by planting your hands in the snow. But when having t

The HP books also suffers a bit from being written one chapter at a time. But at the same time, it's an interesting concept seeing a story evolve that way. I found some of the first chapters a bit long-winded, but after that I think th

Thats way too much complexity to get into game programming. Just start with something where you can draw shapes and images to some canvas, and make it interactive. No need to start with 3d, and at least not the low level 3d stuff. Then you

Kotlin is more than just simpler java-syntax, though. If you want to really take advantage of it, there's new idioms, you can use it as a typesafe dsl etc.
