There are Git-based solutions for that. One of them is Anchorpoint, which is basically a centralized layer on top of Git for file locking. File locking is one of the reasons why vanilla Git is not that popular in game dev. It only exists wi

Hey, I am one of the developers of Anchorpoint. We have been working on this project for some years right now, because we really like Git and think that it's totally underrated for large projects, such as game development. Anchorpoint

I wanted to see how to use Git for AAA game dev so I made a test with a self-hosted GitLab server on AWS. In short, sparse checkout makes it possible to fluently work on particular parts of the repo. Why do people still use Perforce then?

Git does pretty well on large repos, when you use sparse checkout and Git LFS. It makes Git behave like a centralized VC system. https://www.anchorpoint.app/blog/scaling-git-to-1tb-of-files...

I am the co-founder of Anchorpoint, a Git based version control app. It's like a Git client + asset manager. I have seen many false statements about Git LFS and wanted to test how it works on a large repo. We are using a self-hosted Gi

If you need something between Git LFS and Perforce you could try Anchorpoint. It's a Git based version control software and has stuff like file locking.

I don't think so, even as a game artist. It took me a while to understand the concept of branches (that they are basically modes or variants of a project). That clicked. But for daily game development, the most thing I do is just commi

Here is a tutorial on how to use Git LFS with Azure DevOps for game dev. But the same principle applies for ML. It's about versioning large data. DevOps does not charge for storage, yet. https://www.anchorpoint.app/blog

Yes, Git LFS works better then most people think. You can also use Azure DevOps, because they don't charge for storage. We use Anchorpoint as a Git client, because it's optimized for LFS.
