“Burn After Reading”: only adjacent to the halls of power, but a great portrayal of a majority of morons trying to impose themselves into a mostly-offscreen world of aghast professionals. It’s a harbinger.

I would just like to appreciate your imagery and wordplay here, it’s spot on and I think should be our standard for conceptualizing this corporate behavior.

"Extraordinary danger"? "Fighting the oligarchy"? Those can certainly pull tens of thousands of people to the street. But I'm not so sure it's enough to win. See what I said above - materialistic, amoral. I

Agreed, this word needs to be claimed and defended. We need a sane politics that can win and for that we need to start with a rallying cry, in a nation where the median is poor, materialistic, and amoral. Obviously, rallying around “diversi

Quantity has a quality all it’s own. That is to say, as we strive for better and better tools along a single axis, at some point the social dynamics shift markedly, even though it’s just “more of the same”. Digital distribution was just bet

I thought that a reasonably free, vital, innovative, and prosperous society was compatible with a fundamental respect for human dignity. That's why I moved to Europe. Now it seems I was overoptimistic, but that doesn't mean we sho

I think the grass roots of the tech world has some portion of the blame here. The introduction of hoodies, flip-flops, open drama and bickering, and kicker into the office environment is not unrelated. And it’s not just CEOs, we’ve now got

I don’t get why our profession is so prone to this. From what I’ve seen, actual engineers and people working in the trades have a “pick the right tool for the job” approach. At least the ones that haven’t been co-opted into becoming vendors

This is a wonderful list and I’m going to hold onto it, thank you. I love the concept of a “switched on” person and I’ve been struggling to define and name this myself. They’re all across the political spectrum and often outside its binarie

I was always receptive to those arguments, but I think even the people making them only felt them conceptually. The thick layer of civilization and “end of history” vibes just felt impenetrable. Then around brexit times it started to feel a

The EU suddenly feels flimsy and badly defended. I hope that negative motivation puts the fear into people and motivates action faster than this reality can be exploited by bad actors, who seem to be ready and waiting.

This borderline bricked my partner’s phone. We’re in Berlin. The “walk in centers” here are a few random sleepy repair shops barely aware of what’s happening who might be able to help you in a few weeks, maybe. She bought an iPhone.

A younger me would see this as too radical. After seeing some of this up close, now I tend to support this course of action. It would be a shame, but I think we’ve all collectively proven ourselves to be shortsighted and cheap with the grea

Strongly agreed. When I think of the best Nintendo products the words “fun” and “play” spring to mind. AAA gaming on the other hand, either resembles sports, shallow short-form media, or Oscar-bait melodrama. Very little fun to be had. What
