Slightly off topic, but I'm still always shocked when I see small businesses running iPads just to plug in a Square card reader, or run some basic form-fill application.

Yes, but the "other mechanisms" of EM harm you list do not apply to mm-waves. Imagine being wrapped in lead to protect your organs from harmful mm-waves. That's effectively already the case; mm-waves can't penetrate skin

This is an interesting thought. It wouldn't be more precise than the GPS tracker already in your pocket, but it does open up more info to people other than Google. Also as a note, regular MIMO (not "massive") wouldn't pr

This doesn't make a lot of sense.. There is no "Huawei 5G spectrum". Huawei equipment has to operate in whatever spectrum regulations exist for the country buying the equipment. Countries (including parts of the US) buy Huawe

Spectrum scarcity is also a function of our wasteful utilization. What you describe (small cells) is one version of what we call spatial multiplexing. Basically, reuse spectrum in physically separate areas. But you can also do this in a way

Anymore too busy for it, but in college my roommate and I had a side-hustle selling computer monitors on Amazon. Basically there was a company that cleared out defunct call centers and such, who would call us up to offload monitors for $5 a

Except when that software needs more than a microcontroller to run. The computers Tesla throws into the cars are not super cheap.

It's not a bad a early career move, especially if you're still in college--much better than a paper resume. Peter Stripol is my favorite of these types of channels. Guy built (and flew!) an airplane out of styrofoam.

They really should put the comms dish on buoy a 100ft off deck to prevent this. Moreover, how long until we get a "brought to you live by starlink" banner?

For my understanding, is it possible this could actually be a decent thing for the rest of world? Not ideal, but an improvement? Or is the argument they should just be using <cryptocurrency> ?

Being aperiodic should mean there's no well defined grating lobes. Basically each emitter pair has a different spacing and thus different grating lobe location, so across the whole array they get smeared out to an even sidelobe level.

Does anyone know if anything ever came of the 'Bespoke Processor' [1] approach? Essentially you run your application on a simulated MSP430, and it prunes out all the gates you don't use. Seemed promising, but then I don'

Nope that's it. The bat file here is just a clickable shortcut so you don't have to remember the whole command. The interesting stuff is happening in ImageMagick, which has to be installed already.

For other noobish windows users like myself, you can simply dump the following into a bat file. When run, it'll look for a file called "scanThis.pdf" and apply the conversion with ImageMagick. IF EXIST scanThis.pdf (magi

I highly doubt cars are the actual killer app for wireless charging. At the end of the day, they're usually parked a good amount of time, and are comparably tolerant of extra weight, which makes some form of battery much simpler. I

Would love to see more features supporting RF. Obviously the dream would be a 2D or 2.1D mesh/simulate built in, but would settle for less. An easy starting point is better import/export of layouts. Designing an antenna in my RF-s

I thought the benefit of pass-through entities was the opposite--push through what would otherwise be salary as lesser-taxed (no FICA) profit? If your company has $100k to play with, paying $200k salary to take $100k loss is not a good move
