Might be my perception from my algorithm curated news / social media feeds, but to me it looks like Trump's strategy of doing so many outrageous things every day that most of them go through unnoticed or unchallenged is working. A

That’s probably what the companies spending the money think, that they’re building a huge moat. There’s an alternative view. If there’s a bubble and all these companies are spending these huge sums on something that ends up not returning th

But that makes sense, technology makes headlines when it's exciting. Crypto I'd disagree there's been advances, it's mostly scams and pyramid schemes and it got boring and predictable in that sense so once the promise an

That's a bit of an edge case, powered by the absolute, lovely turbo-nerdery of a few dedicated souls. They are called 4K77 / 4K80 versions for people looking for them.

I mean, they're wrong? LLMs don't have agency, don't learn, don't do anything except react to prompts really.

Not sure about that one. I do agree with the AI bros that, _if_ we build AGI, ASI looks inevitable shortly after, at least a "soft ASI". Because something with the agency of a human but all the knowledge of the world at its finger

Engineers thinking they're building god is such a good marketing strategy. I can't overstate it. It's even difficult to be rational about it. I don't actually believe it's true, I think it's pure hype and LLMs

I think at this point the better question is: why in the past fertility was so high? and I think the reasons were mainly that people _relied_ on their children to grow up and take over the farm and take care of their parents. They were also

the problem is that you still need to install all the low level stuff manually, conda does it automatically

Unfortunately uv is usually insufficient for certain ML deployments in Python. It's a real pain to install pytorch/CUDA with all the necessary drivers and C++ dependencies so people tend to fall back to conda. Any modern tips

IMHO the US is turning into an oligarchy / autocracy like Russia. Musk is one of the oligarchs. We all know what happens to oligarchs when they get too close to eclipse the top dog and go near a window.

I think on average trusting the experts is the right thing. And by the way LK99 is not even particularly damning, as far as we know it was science working as intended

I think this is a real problem but your post is an exaggeration. There are cases of fraud in science. There is a reproducibility crisis in some areas. There are political angles and rent seeking wrt grants. But how widespread is it? You

I've watched it. I disagree. Zelensky calmly and reasonably asked JD Vance a question regarding his answer to the reporter. It was all fine until Vance started with the "frankly I think it's very disrespectful" line. HE

I can't believe what's happening to be honest. Any world where Musk doesn't end up in jail feels unjust at this point.

I understood SETI style meaning crowdsourced. Instead of mining bitcoin you mine LLMs. It's a nice idea I think. Not sure about technical details, bandwidth limitations, performance, etc.

I read a tweet around 2014 that was very short and simple and stayed with me for a while and now seems prescient. It was something like "man, anti-SJW is getting worse than SJW" (using sjw as the precursor for woke). Makes me thin
