I think another problem is the expectation of what AI will look like at all. We think of intelligent human-like robots like something from science fiction, when in reality AI could just be a bit of code running on a standard machine with sp

A better question is how to make this an experience versus just another of the hundred million freebies. Everything online is free, so it's no differentiator any more and the few bands who could get a bit of press from it have gotten it now

Gotta say, thesixtyone.com is my new favourite site! And that's speaking both as a listener and an artist. I've bought 3 albums in the past week from t61 artists. I'm going to get everyone I can hooked on it! :)

To also mention what I use: - GarageBand for recording through a Tascam US-122 (keep looking at higher end ones, but keep putting the purchase off... :) - Guitars mostly direct input w/ GB's built-in amps. My stage amp is a Fender Blues Jr.

Yes! I'm actually working on transitioning in the next year to a technomad/touring lifestyle so I can focus on music more. I'm at http://thesixtyone.com/johnnybroadway or http://www.johnnybroadway.com/

Very true about computers. I find even with CDs I don't get the same thing as with vinyl though. It's just not as compelling an artistic medium. As to putting it on a website, that could work and some people have done exactly that, but this

I wish I could find info for artists on creating these. So much potential for creativity here, and I hope that's opened up to indies sooner than later and not just the majors.

I can see if this is poorly done it will become annoying like a repeating DVD intro for sure. But as an artist, this also gives an opportunity to be not just musical but visual and even interactive. If it's based on webkit, sky's the limit

No one's mentioned On Intelligence by Jeff Hawkins yet... I'm surprised. Check it out here: http://www.onintelligence.org/ Great read on exactly this topic, and one of the more plausible paths to actually achieving machine intelligence. B

I'm perfectly aware 1.8 to 1.9 was a pretty big move for Ruby folks (maybe could've been called 2.0?), and 2.x to 3 in Python, that's the time for big changes. I've also written real production software in about half a dozen languages, so y

You have no idea how much I wish I could do this. Just testing my code from PHP 5.2 to 5.3 and there are several serious problems now that I get to find workarounds for, all while maintaining backward compatibility too. How is it that a min

Indeed, the struggle with the process of creation, the fear of rejection, misunderstanding, failure, is at the core of many artists. I look at entrepreneurialism and hacking as forms of art too, so the topic is very on point here in my view

Thanks, glad you like! The camera had to be positioned in the middle of a table of girls at that show, so any talking came through as loud as I did unfortunately. You couldn't hear them at all from on stage though, and people are going to b

I'm not sure about a need for "flawless truth" but after being immersed in code for hours I do have trouble socializing and being on a less intense level with people. I find I'm inclined to be more introverted unless I've had time to unwind

This reminds me of that story about people disappearing in real life. _why had some really cool projects. It makes a little more sense looking at him as an "artist" I guess, but aren't hackers sort of artists too? I always thought the dicho
