Am I right in thinking with advanced warning this could be mitigated by simply shutting down the power grids for a few hours? That would be a big deal, but clearly not as bad as taking it out.

I'd venture to say this is not limited to software. If you design some hardware, or mechanichal machine or whatever, future maintenance const is a key factory. Just look at e.g. cars.

Well, the correct answer is often also "They did it that way because it was a reasonable choice then, and they didn't have the benefit of hindsight that I have now."

But transportation taxes also require you to purchase something from a private party. You just hand your money to the government, who does the purchasing for you. Don't get me wrong, I'm a strong believer in single payer health

I don't understand why people are so opposed to the "mandate". We have the same thing in so many other places, only those are handled by paying taxes for things you might not need. I can't avoid buying "invasion i

J-1's are issued for a maximum of 5 years per individual. Beyond that, universities can only hire postdocs etc under H-1B, because academic hires are exempt from the quotas. It's unlikely a postdoc-level position would qualify for

I wonder if the $100k would apply to academic H1B's too. If so, that's pretty much the end of those.

My point is that the wording "several credible causes for the COPV failure" does not imply they haven't experimentally verified that those causes can cause a COPV failure, which you seemed to imply.

It would be easier if you could build your entire experimental apparatus out of antimatter, but if you could do that you're probably beyond making experiments with single atoms of it... ;-)

Not a theory at all. You get antimatter out of many common radioactive materials: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Positron_emission It's the building atoms out of it that's tricky, but antimatter is nothing new

The argument I've heard against "burning trash" isn't that it's unclean or anything but that, to the extent stuff in trash is made from oil, still amounts to burning hydrocarbons. From an energy yield perspective, m

Except Zillow actually does show a range. If you look at the Zestimate details on a house, you see something like this: "Zestimate $472,603", and immediately to the right: "Zestimate range $425k - $506k". The little qu

The rural white poverty and suicide rate is huge. This gets almost no attention since they don't matter to liberals. Didn't Bernie take flak because some people thought he cared only about this?
