The basics brand of Swedish supermarket ICA also looks minimal and honest. The packaging has a title and a description on the front, and it's unashamed to tell you "these beans are our cheapest" https://www.ica.se&

Interesting question! On helicopters, you can use autorotation to land safely even when your engine broke. On planes, I'm not so sure. I suspect most of the braking forces while flying come from the drag of the normal plane body, so yo

This is what I see in Germany. A few people stuck with fountain pens thorough high school, but I think moist people switched to ballpoint or fineliners. I don't have a particularly nice handwriting, and a fountain pen would not help wi

Where I live in Germany, rock climbing is heavily restricted during nesting season. It's a shame that those birds were disturbed, I hope they found a different soaked place.

I think of it more like a pickup truck: It's easy to drive and gives consumers all the cargo space they would ever need. Not everyone needs to run Netflix's backend. But for things like a blog, an email server, a matrix server, co

Is there a reason why successfully running software on a server is so much harder than running software on your phone? I don't think it needs to be this way. Someone needs to figure out server software for consumers. Just like PCs beca

I'm pretty sure the disclaimer does nothing. If they put out a product they need to expect people will use it, and they need to take actions to keep those people safe. At least that's how I think it works in Germany.

Except that with gambling, you get a rush and a chance of profit. In games, it's only a sad and short-lived rush.

In fact, we never marketed to children. Adults are much more profitable, because they can actually pay up.

Why does this type of ad work? Do people want to be addicted to something so badly? Don't they have something better to do?

Addiction is more perverse than that: I'm sure the players could stop if they wanted to. But they just don't want to. They too start rationalizing "it relieves so much stress", "it calms me down" etc. F2P games

I did an internship with a very profitable Swedish mobile game before the pandemic, and it was really interesting to see the doublethink: everyone knew we were making a drug, but people avoided speaking of it in that way. It was always &quo

I go on more walks. But I also meet way fewer people and spend more days and evenings alone at home. Social media fills some of that time if you don't actively avoid it.

Influencing people has always been a goal of many (see Dale Carnegie). It means being powerful. Influencing people to do a good thing is amazing. Being paid for any influence presumably feels also pretty good.

I think this is how AI takes over humanity. Humans are so short-sighted, we don't even need a superintelligence to outsmart us. We happily stand by and collect profits while letting the AI do whatever it wants. Really, we need regulati
