I know that de Grey has a rough outline to reach his "Methuselahrity", but does anyone know of a reference to other milestones needed to reach the singularity's state of radical abundance. The notes indicate that they discussed the idea of

I agree whole-heartedly. Moderators frequently changing titles is an annoying practice. The article's links are not descriptive (they're just id numbers), so the article titles are how I mentally keep track of which submissions I want to,

Thanks for that link! It has been 15 years since I read Catch 22 and I don't happen to own a copy right now. Yes, that is exactly the section of which I was thinking. I didn't intend my comment to mean that libertarian law approves of merc

Read the section of the book _Catch-22_ where the Syndicate's pilots bomb their own airport because the Nazis outbid the Allies.

I bought a used $50 reel-style push mower (like your grandpa probably had) and started using it to mow my 1.7 acre yard. At the end, I have nicely trimmed grass and a crazy effective workout.

Ha! So, I can't count apparently. That was 15 million as the final number in the table. The Amish don't get to 1.5 billion until 2186.

Reminds me of the squid robots from the third Matrix movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0pV8AaXr7E I wonder how well a robot with these appendages would do at asteroid mining? Also, it is now possible to make a robotic Cthuhlu.

At first glance, my reaction was also, "No way, not happening." But, I know some Amish and former-Amish personally and can attest that they think it is part of their Christian duty to "be fruitful and multiply." I also know that they are b

Something interesting to think about: The Amish not only heavily restrict their member's Internet access, but commonly eschew the Internet altogether. According to the 2010 census, there were 249000 Amish in the USA [1] and their population

Did you immediately understand what set of behaviors I implied by saying "wild Indian" and "slovenly Barbarian"? (Why isn't anyone upset that I included the Barbarians?) Then you know exactly why I mentioned them - a literary short-hand m

Thanks. I appreciate the fairness. I agree that I could have merely said something like, "...wild and slovenly behavior, such as x,y,and z...." At the time, I was trying to create a vivid verbal picture that conveyed additional concepts s

hnhg, Thanks for saying that because it brings up a problem that HN has that I've been thinking about for awhile. HN seems to be stuck in an upper to upper-middle class/Leftist/Politally-Correct viewpoint, and I think that is to its detrim

I wish it were common place. From what I understand, many school districts in the USA have rules against this. Or, they have no advertised route for early completion, which is effectively the same thing.
