I can't speak for everyone but I have a Windows 7 VM just for things like this. But I can say I don't think I've ever needed to use it. I run photoshop (cs5) in wine, although I could program get by with gimp I rarely do an

If you've used screen for 10 years, learning tmux will take about 10 minutes. There's also some handy plugins: https://github.com/tmux-plugins Really, if screen works for you, tmux isn't going to change you

I use git and GNU stow. ssh in, clone the repo, stow tmux. Takes ~10 seconds on a new host. Also includes all the other dot files I use (bash, vim, etc).
