Founder, Stadia Maps here. We're looking into this, as well as trying to build consensus with the other map vendors on how to approach it. If you're a vendor and what to be part of it, email me (luke at stadiamaps.com).

A significant change here is the licensing. Mapbox now reserves their right for their libraries to phone home, so if you're using v2, you should be aware of their data collection policies.

Yes, thanks to the sibling comment, I'm more aware than I was when I made my initial comment. The startup bent seems to be toward cutting edge in hard sciences (bio, materials, etc.), and as a result, most of the startups are outside m

The last link is what I was looking for, thanks. More startup infrastructure is there than I was aware of. I’m not certain it changes my overall assessment, though: I wouldn’t chose to move to Switzerland based on its vibrant community of t

That’s a good quote, I shall use it in the future. :) I never disputed that there’s lots of spin-offs from ETH, but I was unaware of the precise count. It’s higher than I thought. Thanks for bringing the data. However, even with a few dozen

Good point. I should have qualified. ETH is an excellent school—I'd be happy to have an ETH degree! They produce tons of good research in computer science (especially geospatial), material science, and others. I think Google is especia

As an American immigrant to Switzerland, don’t move here to be on the cutting technical edge. You will be sorely disappointed. It’s a function of societal mentality (slow to change as a way of ensuring enduring stability) and size (fewer pe

Switzerland is also very small, as countries go. The longest train route is IC 1 (St. Gallen <-> Geneva) going from the (almost) easternmost point to the westernmost point, and it’s 4 hours (it does have a few higher speed sections cl

Practice. Passion. Stubbornness. Patience. (And a bit of innate skill and luck.) Everyone I've known who has mastered something simply has done it a million times, observed what they did right and wrong, corrected it, and leveled up ea

This same client is a bit of a penny-pincher. Are there any plans to open this up so we could host the infrastructure and then pull a SQL import dump or something along those lines after running the CLI part? This would reduce your ongoing

As billed, this is good stuff. I have a client who has millions of rows of data in production—and we have to run our test suite against production because they have no curated staging data set. This would allow us to save multiple minutes e

As a load balancer, NGINX is subpar in almost every feature comparison, especially at the open-source (free to use) tier. HAProxy gives you the following that are musts for load balancing (in my opinion), that NGINX does not, at least not e

Sounds like par for the course. I compiled it from source on our edge servers for a long time (as opposed to packaged), simply so I could apply these real time patches as needed.

The difficulty depends on what size of market you're trying to serve at what reliability target with geographic constraints, how often you want to update your data, and how many map tiles / second you want to serve. Consider a few
