If you want a different browser scripting language, start hacking on Firefox and Chromium and start a campaign to get it adopted. Otherwise, you are adding unnecessary complexity to apps that are already unnecessarily complex in the first p

It's missing the whole point of interpreted languages. I hate JS as much as the next person, but in the end, if you don't know JS well, these languages will only hinder your progress.

That is why debugging JS that was written in some ridiculous language that compiles to JS becomes quite difficult. The other problem is trying to figure out the fix in the original language which may not be obvious. But this is not a popula

To clarify, such titles as "ninja," "samurai," "rockstar," etc. that are completely ridiculous are quite disrespectful to those who practice the arts that they make reference to. Not to mention idiotic.

So I don't have to be a Ninja or a Samurai to get anything out of this book? ;-) Awesome. The title still sucks. I don't get this idea of (ninja|rockstar|etc) and it's extremely disrespectful to those that practice those disciplines.

This isn't because OSX is inherently more secure but because of the fact that virus/malware makers target Windows more than any other OS because it's the most widely deployed desktop OS. And yes, occasionally having AV software on a Mac wil

Awesome post but instead of writing a program to move all the tickets over, a better suggestion would be to follow Joel's advice ( http://www.joelonsoftware.com/items/2012/07/09.html ) and get rid of that clutter. I can almost guarantee you

Seriously. Especially after all the Chaos monkey articles. Their Chaos monkey doesn't have enough Chaos apparently or is too stupid to hit load balancers? Shit, that's the first thing I'd knock out!

CPU is a limiting factor for a lot of applications. And EC2's offerings are paltry until you get into the really expensive VMs. But it's not just CPU, it's the overall performance. Engineers want to run on hardware for many more reasons tha

Yes, I agree. You must build not only for "the cloud" (whatever that means) but for your specific "cloud" provider like AWS. Then you're stuck with them. You can (and should) of course build a bridge to such services but there are some mana

True, but false claims in a post-mortem from Netflix make me wonder if I should retain the service. What they should be offering is credit to those affected. Their excuse that people don't watch too many streams on XMas eve is lame even by

Correct. Probabilistically, I'd say it's the same as long as that earthquake is under the ocean. Yeah you'll get 30M tsunami with a 9.0mag earthquake (most likely, I'm no geologist). So yeah, AWS going down should be something _every_ compa

Or you could wake up at the same time and not answer emails in the morning to achieve the same effect (since it's context switching that you're trying to avoid). Also, I fail to see how this makes it a 26-Hour Day.
