Which you can then use to recompile your OS easily (FreeBSD, some Linux based OS's) and tune it to a specific machine / configuration. That's why people like Kernighan and Ritchie (RIP) are so well respected. They wrote C to the target lang

Nice. Your reasons all do make sense. Doing is learning. I will definitely check it out if only to learn more about Zend internals. Maybe update the github readme with this? It would help a lot, IMO.

Yes, even with just PHP templating, you still would need at least wrapper functions around things like print htmlspecialchars($input, ENT_QUOTES, 'UTF-8'); Otherwise, yeah, someone will miss one instance and that's all it takes. One attack

Yes. And SQL injections are still #1 followed by code injection as #2 app vulnerabilities (I believe that's from last year but I wouldn't expect changes). XSS is up there. Why not? It's so easy and there is no excuse for any of this. None.

Yeah, the OP is a really nice person. Because FB doesn't deserve this, not for $3.5k, maybe for $35k but more for around $350k to $3.5m. Guaranteed by contract.

Hacking books (especially tech books) or hacking code? What's the difference? Both are just as technical. I will agree, the post could have been titled better. What's relevant here is not the money but the OP's change of attitude from live

All those negative commenters can shove it up their ass. This is one of the few really interesting posts in the last few _months_ on HN. If they can't see the connection between business and "hacking" (whatever the fuck that might be in the

Thank you for writing such an honest post. Your courage is great and your view of work to live rather than live to work which has obviously changed quickly is inspiring. I too had this revelation a couple of years ago, but have always thoug

And without GNU tools, Linux by itself is also useless without GNU tools (unless you can compile C by hand). GNU/Linux is the OS. Ubuntu, Fedora, etc. are distributions of this OS.

The OS is way more than the kernel. Device drivers for example. Compilers (while technically ran in user-land, try to build a kernel without them). Etc, etc. I don't know what they teach you at school, but I'm sure you can figure it out fro

This isn't a problem with just India and the US. A lot of the world's countries don't even have laws against rape.

Sweden has a much higher (3-4x general crime rate) and an even higher violent crime rate (about 12-14x) than Romania. ( http://epp.eurostat.ec.europa.eu/statistics_explained/index.... ). I don't see anything surprising here.

And in the US, it's about nothing at all because unfortunately one of the protections against voters and one of the most ill-conceived ideas of government has been the electoral college. If you're not in the small percentage or so whose vot

Yes indeed. Easy fix: every elected official who doesn't make good on his or her promises gets executed at the end of the term. Guarantee there will be no more false promises. Period.

Linux is NOT an OS and Linus did not create the OS. The OS is GNU the kernel is Linux. Thus you are comparing numbers for a kernel (Linux in Android OS versions) vs. numbers of OS's (Windows, OSX, iOS). This isn't a technicality either. Get

True, but why bake it into the language if it's not enforced? Most OOP requires encapsulation which requires private members and the ability to enforce this privacy. It should not be up to the user to enforce it, as that will never happen.

What's wrong with it? It's a bug by design that allows a useless feature (access to private members ... why not make everything public then?) and allows the destruction of a key concept of OOP: encapsulation. Which is perfectly fine if you
