Disclaimer: I am a full-time Erlang programmer I use several frameworks/libs for different tasks: Webmachine, N2O, Cowboy I don't believe in RoR type of frameworks. I believe in clear separation between server and client. We are s

Few reasons: 1. Cooperative multitasking. Really? In 2014? Hello? 2. Weakest of weak typing. undefined is not a function? Anyone? 3. Everyone can override everything. 4. Conventions, that's the only way you can build software in JS. An

Yep, node.js is the new PHP. Not by how it works, but by "shit everyone uses". Now, I won't try to convince anyone that it's crap (while I do believe it is), but it's the modern crap technology. Welcome to 1998, we

Both. Elixir is the future, but mostly, you write the same thing with a different (better) syntax. No way you will write Elixir without understanding Erlang

Yep, I could readily point to my Erlang application that can serve thousands of requests per second, doing real work. While simultaneously handling 10k+ websocket connections. All that on a single machine (16G RAM, 8 cores). Does that mean

Interesting, didn't know this usage is so old. I (non-native) thought that it's some hipster programmer talk.

I don't think it's pedantry. It's the same as some doctor coming to you with the words "The Internet is not working".

You are technically correct and wrong in the same time. Cowboy is an application, but cowboy is not the "web server". It is an application that spawns and supervises multiple "web servers". Every one of them can crash, w

In fact, it is actually crashing the whole "web server". As the whole "web server" in Erlang is an Erlang process. And you can have millions of them. Every single request is handled by its own process "web server&qu

I second that. Although I only write Erlang, Elixir is the future.

Actually, that was exactly the case in the Eastern Block. All those laws for "crimes against the state" were on the book. Most of the GULAG prisoners were in fact jailed after a "due process". And I think it's the s

Yeah, but most of the time, Anglicized forms of the Latin words are in use. Increasingly so, even in the non-English speaking world. Even in your example, the correct Latin form is "Infarctus Miocardii" and Cardiac Infarct is heav

Well, Android has all of this, and then some more. Except maybe for the Nokia Maps. Haven't used it and can't say, but Google Maps on Android is FAR better than the iOS counterpart. So why Windows Phone and not Android?

Actually English has completely replaced Latin in medical circles as the Ligua Franca. Even the terminology (still based on Latin though) is English.

If FTL is not possible, this makes for a very good reason to conquer the nearest habitable planets. If they are overcrowded and able to conquer Earth in reasonable (for them) time-frame, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't want to. Tha
