Who's talking about America? I'm talking about "third world". That's poor. Fat people in America are wealthy.

At the moment I type this from a T410 with 1600x900 resolution. I want better.

I work like that when I need to run other stuff on the Windows side. But that's on my monster desktop machine. Now I want to buy a small ultrabook, and on that, running 2 OSes sounds suboptimal. It might work of course, but I can't try it b

My work (and hobbies) involve lots of linux specific programming. Most of the things (but not all) can be done on MacOS, but almost always linux is the better tool for me, getting my work done. Developing blindly on MacOS, not knowing wheth

Yes, good points. Of course I value most answers from people with actual experience. But I'm also happy with answers of the kind like "see, manufacturer X is going to release model Y in 2 months"... Same observations about Dell, except for

At least in European stores, I can't find one with more than 1600x900 pixels. That's too old nowadays.

Hmm, I can't seem to find a machine with these specs. Especially I can't find one with Full HD screen. Maybe because I am searching in European stores... (where I live) On the other hand, I found a UX32VD with 2x256 GB SSDs. This is a littl

Yeah... if it wasn't for this, I wouldn't be typing here. Instead I would probably be doing something much more productive, using the Pixel, right at the moment :-(

My problem with Dell is that their keyboards usually suck. They are not that bad, but certainly worse than ThinkPads and MacBooks. Also, this actual model is more expensive than the Chromebook Pixel, and is arguably worse at every detail

What you say is only an assumption. And if it's true, then I wonder how Android actually got the better user experience lately. I have access to all of iPhone 4S, Samsung Galaxy S2 and a Galaxy Nexus. For me both androids are quite a lot be

Another one here... I like Erlang's syntax as well. Of course, we could have some things better (like record syntax), but it's really not bad at all. I think most people have curly braces fetish (we call them "tits" at times where I work).

In Bulgarian we often call it that way. Also, their National Football team - Eire, without exception. I thought it's an abbreviation EIRE, but now I see it's not. Interesting :)

I don't think it's possible to measure and avoid the "as long as it is not done by getting money with the free work of others". To get our tools for free is a result of the very nature of the computer and the Internet (copying costs practic

I never said "won't give money". I just said "won't use non-opensource". These are two different things, just FYI. I have paid for opensource software - Red Hat Linux. And would pay again if the paid offer is better than the free one. Also,

Yeah, but the source of GNOME 2 is there, and the people who are not happy with ver.3 created several forks. They may or may not be of better quality, but they are there and if on wants to continue living in GNOME 2, (s)he can do so. The si

I am not an opensource zealot, but there are several kinds of non-opensource software that I try to avoid using for my work (for entertainment is different): 1. My production OS. 2. My language of choice (runtime environment, compiler etc.)

In fact I think it works the other way around, and it's a very good idea. "If someone is willing to spend $100 to text me, they probably have a good reason to do it. Maybe it's worth reading..."

You are wrong, at least regarding most of the world. In Europe Android is a very well recognized brand. People ask questions like "recommend me a good android phone" and "do you think it's worth going for a Nexus instead of a Galaxy S". And

Don't forget that it was true only for a very small percent of Earth's land/people. For example in Eastern Europe - Bulgaria, electricity reached smaller towns and villages during the 1950s and 60s.
