Absolutely this. Gemini is amazing, but I'm under no illusions that their principal goal right now is to boost their database of high quality training data with free access via ai studio. That said, custom silicon with a model made wit

Kobold.cpp is still my preference for a gui. Single portable exe with good flexibility in configuration if you want it, no need if not.

You must admit the way GP framed it strongly implies Meta gave the Indian government carte blanche access to intercept decrypted messages. That is a massive, order-of-magnitude different story than the Indian Gov't hacking phones (inst

Totally agree, I mentioned it in another comment but Gemini was a game changer for allowing me to increase the size of the project I can feasibly have AI work on. Only issue is Gemini's context window (I've seen my experience corr

Godspeed. I find it frustrating these systems don't follow some sort of international standard, still. I can't justify replacing the system in my 2016 Highlander just to get Android auto, but the Bluetooth system handles non-phone

Work wise I'm building a discrete event simulation with pysim. I manage the autonomous vehicles program and underground control center for the subarctic mine I work at, and we've desperately needed some means to evaluate efficacy

Did you mean to say sodium batteries instead of lithium in your "BYD did it" sentence?

I'm so grateful to live through such exciting times. I can open HN every two to some exciting new news about ML/transformer models. I really should read more into it, but does llama.cpp use a "custom kernel" per se, with

Prescient timing, went for a 10pm workout last night and was up until 2:30am wide eyed in bed unable to sleep. I feel like I need to try this every couple years to be reminded how it affects my sleep.

I'm baffled seeing this. I'm absolutely convinced of Google value prop, knowing Gemini 2.5 pro was trained and inference is performed on their TPUs is enormous. It's far and way the best model (Claude still has my heart, but

There must be some form of memory leak in AI Studio as I'll have to close and open a new tab after about 2 hours as it slowly grinds my slower computers to a halt. Its ability to create a markdown file without escaping the markdown its

While "third world" isn't a modern term and you should try to avoid it, it's also not correct by any means. If we consider 1st, 2nd, and 3rd world countries to be analogous to high, medium, and low income countries, Braz

I couldn't find anything on the site relating to donations, and it doesn't have commercial restrictions nor a clear major company backing it. I wonder where the funding is coming from.

I don't think this will or necessarily should ever be fixed. The eventual solution (I imagine) will be to simply plug in a calculator. All the MCP talk on HN pushed me to try MCP out, and I'm sold. A Swiss army knife of tools like

Personally I would hesitate to install any MCP server unless from an org I trust as it's a whole lot of extra code to trust/audit for possibly marginal gain. That said, depends what the niche is and if the use-case suits LLMs well

To be fair, after seeing the posts I installed the filesystem MCP server made by Anthropic and it is a massive game changer for working with Claude Desktop to program. I guided Claude to develop a 3000 line python wrapper for ffmpeg for my

I don't think your use of "surely" was very cordial, but I'll indulge your point, thanks for taking the time to respond. If I were a lawyer, I would label those points circumstancial at best: (1) I'm not sure to whi

The unfortunate thing is that more than any other service, email feels like the one on which I cannot risk to compromise reliability. This sort of story (thank you for sharing) unfortunately fits with my own experience managing my Universit

I'm under the same impression. Llama.cpp's readme used to start with "Apple Silicon as a First Class Citizen", and IIRC Georgi works on Mac himself.

Neither you nor the linked comment provide any context for that. Is it not possible that Israel blocked because of a request by the Israeli government, and not because of a political statement?

I'm curious by what measure you suggest it's "too cold". Kelvin is an offset celsuis, so it's not like we're talking about an innapropriate order (like 10 000 000 grams vs. 10 tonnes). I would understand if it

Thanks for sharing this thought, it hadn't occured to me that this could be an issue. Would the choice of AGPL or MPL for a licence have satisfied your concerns?

There's a great podcast by Andrew Huberman on dopamine I listened to last week where he discusses theanine at the end. It's a fantastic (but 3 hour long) primer[0] for anyone wanting to learn more. [0] https://www.huber

Apart from the actual meat of the discussion, which is whether the GP's sigh is actually warranted, it's just frustrating to see everyone engage in such shallow expression. The one word comment could charitably be interpreted as t

Even better than the TPM in Windows is a hardway FIDO2 or OTP key, I'd imagine. Those cannot be comprimised by a virus on your PC in the same way, assuming you don't leave the key in at all times and you only tap the button when e
