Well; and when it boils down to it, what did Notch even really do for programming in general? Minecraft is incredibly popular and very well made; but in no ways is it revolutionary or game-changing for the industry in the way Wolf3D or DO

Notch ruined his popularity tho by being a total bigot and jerk. :/

Welp; meeting him briefly by accident once was the reason I decided to go straight into the field of development instead of going to school for it around 2008. I took a moment and read some of his contributions - very fascinating to read

This relies on hardcore deterministic reverse-engineering. Coming from the ROM hacker scene I initially was confused by this; too - but absolutely understand it’s impracticality difficult from a technical end.

The fact that people like you are here makes HN still worthwhile while all other social media networks seem to fall flat. I’d love to think John Carmack is here among us; cleverly disguised under some cute u/n we’d never get unless it

Holy crap, man - I read two sentences into your comment before literally hitting reply to say ‘as a long-time Mac and iOS dev this is one of the most logical and undeniable statements I’ve ever heard’. I read the rest after typing this. Int

I read this as 'Nanosaurus 2' beta and memories came flooding back of struggling to control a flying velociraptor with a mouse as one of my first experiences ever with a game on OSX in the Apple Stores.

I believe that this will not be too GPU-intensive, but that will of course depend on the input resolution of the video.

I believe MindStorms was my introduction to the general concepts of programming around the age of ten. I actually remember it running off DOS, I believe.

I'm not sure why people keep using the 30% number. For businesses that make less than $1mil a year (I am assuming that's most of us who are hobbyist or indie developers here), you literally have to push a button to enable the smal

Whoa. That's excellent to hear. Since they are non-upgradeable, I will certainly be waiting until a unit with at least 32GB RAM (ideally 64GB) before I'd upgrade at all and consider it future-proofed, but this is great to know!

There are rumours of a supposed M1X that may hit before the M2, so you may be waiting a little longer than you’d think. :) Of course, the Apple rumour mill; grain of salt, etc - but I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw an M1X that could, for i
