Thanks. Interesting how rare and extreme these events are. This suggests a runway process is involved in that the fire spreads and multiplies in just the right conditions, but presumably it takes a while for nature to grow enough to become

LOL, you guys have a really sensitive "climate denial sensor". I am about as critical of ignorant consumerism as it gets. For example I do not think millions of people need to travel >200 miles a day. But I am also aware that r

Wished such news articles would ways contextualize such news with a graph of the fire activity in previous years, if not in the entire recorded history. I want a figure how many standard deviations this is above the mean. Edit: Something li

Historically, the problem was solved by not allowing women in public at all. In nearly all higher cultures, women lived in completely segregated and controlled world. Let's not forget that what is novel is not that a tiny minority of m

Nope, hunting was primarily a male task. In 97.6% of 141 societies hunting was done exclusively done by males. In 98% even setting up traps was done by males. Interestingly, cooking was overwhelmingly done by women. https://sci-h

This does not seem to be a contradiction. Once you are in the right region of solution space training is expected to be faster and easier. Re-initialization could have a regularizing effect, explaining the better performance.

Maybe the additional parameters give the entire network more "leeway" to find such subnetwork structures, i.e. ease gradient descent by smoothing the loss landscape?

It's all pretty meaningless semantics and guesswork. Curve fitting means adaptive computation in networks of fairly simple units that allow for fairly general computation, i.e. traversing program space to find a good solution, or equiv

Extrapolating from my laziness, people will get used to 4 days and productivity will drop eventually. People presumably only work harder to achieve the change they want to see, namely fewer workdays.
