I think the difference just having a hospital triage you and tell you 'ibuprofen will handle the pain, it's nothing serious' is _already_ worth a boat load of money and peace of mind. I agree with you - it would be really int

I wonder what healthcare bills would look like if they were itemized so that things like Ibuprofen were literally billed at cost ($0.25 per?) and there were line items for services/labor that captured the real cost of being a medical p

Totally understood; that's one of the ways that it's not a perfect analogy. Conversely if someone told me to setup Wordpress and that I could only charge $50, I'd change industries in a heartbeat.

I know $60 Ibuprofen can seem like a lot, but is anyone arguing that you're literally paying for only the pill(s) with that $60? Aren't you paying for the instant availability, the insurance that it's not expired (do they eve

I have tried Blue Apron and switched over to Green Box and I really like both of them. I am a really decent cook, but I mostly cook for 2 people so the value of these services to me is the convenience of just-what-you-need serving-size bits

Not 'a hosted instance' or 'a cloud server', but many. An arbitrary amount. Personal anecdote: Local full builds for me take 28-30 minutes. When I farm it out to our infrastructure in AWS it takes 9 minutes.

A counter-argument to this is that all files you need are stored in 'the cloud' and performing searches/indexing/refactoring would happen _faster_ than on your workstation because it can take advantage of a lot more

We don't actually need our president's permission before we take action to address climate change, believe it or not. The president is not actually a dictator. We have power in other ways. - https://en.wikipedia.org

It's also possible that salary is not a main motivation for the parent comment author. Jobs come with non-monetary perks, and sometimes people just do a job to pay the bills. Not everyone is hustling for maximum salary.

That's a very fair point - often those words are interchanged but they are actually different. My analogy was accidentally describing a role model. The mayor analogy is better, but the US President is not actually a leader of any other
