I think there are more practical reasons why it's not used more. What you say is absolutely true of course, but the bigger issue is that McCLIM still has some technical issues. What is really needed is a multiplatform backend that impl

Axiom is also not a normal Lisp program. Maxima can be loaded using ASDF and you can hack on it like any other Lisp project. Axiom in the other hand generates Lisp code from some other format and is rather incomprehensible to someone just c

Do you accept the output from Climaxima? Granted, the project isn't near finished (currently held back due to some dependency issues). I included some example videos in this reply: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2

Of interest may be my project that implements a CLIM-based user interface on top of Maxima. It turns out that CLIM is perfect for this, as its idea of presentation forms matches the way mathematical expressions are represented in Maxima. I

In addition to what you are saying, I'd also ask developers to not use escape sequences directly but instead use terminfo. It allows you to send the correct terminal sequences regardless of the type of terminal you use. In particular,

They even do it on the web version of Outlook. The setting to change it is 4 levels deep and two of the options are at the bottom of lists and labelled "more options".

I recently installed DOS 6.22 (and Windows 3.11) in a VM and it causes one core to sit at 100% all the time. I don't know if the VM changes anything, but it definitely seems as though it does not halt while waiting for activity.

What would that even mean? The model is a description of reality. When you talk about the model, you are referencing a mathematical description of reality. In a similar way, the ratio π is the mathematical description (or model, if you like

I've looked at Rust a few times, and every time I installed the stable release, but as soon as I wanted to actually do something, I realise that the library or feature I wanted to use was not actually available in stable. At least at t

More like the absolute minimum one would expect any contributor to be able to produce. I'm not a fan of coding interviews, but being able to produce a functioning fizzbuzz should not be considered very difficult.

So if someone uploads a 2 hour version of a rickroll and tags it with the name of the latest blockbuster movie and then takes it offline, there is now going to be a permanent record that at some time there was a copy of this movie uploaded?

I'd say there are a few major benefits: 1. Distinction between symbols and strings. 2. A well-specified number format (integers are integers). In JSON the precision of a number is unspecified, not something you want from an interchange

I do that too, but a real macro facility would be a lot nicer. There are a lot of things that cannot nicely be implemented using the existing syntax.

I have been working on a "modern" language based on APL. It implements features such as macro-like custom syntax, first-class functions and closures. It's developed in Kotlin and can be compiled to the JVM as well as natively

My previous response was probably a bit snarky. My point was that if this is something that you worked on and you realise that your revenue doubled, then it's probably very easy to justify that to oneself that this is indeed what the u

Steel frames gives you a much smoother ride, and unless you do a lot of short climbing, the difference in weight doesn't matter that much. In fact, a heavier frame carries more momentum, which can be a benefit in some cases.

The problem is that if they forget to include the correct header file that declares malloc, then the cast will hide any warnings. If the cast is not there, it will tell you that there is a type mismatch.

The issue isn't with MBA's per se. They can certainly be valuable to a company. The problem is when the MBA's control the direction of the company as opposed to advising it.
