Summed up nicely. But now they will get some sobering up. I have little faith that Russian society is going to come out of this war any better. It's a cultural thing. Germany had to be razed to the ground by am external force and milli

This. Why should the West act as a safety valve for Russian dissidents? It's their society, they've made it the way it is, it's not like Putin created the modern Russian society. Putin is just an amalgam of forces.

How many are you willing to accept as your roommates? I heard only nasty stories about Russian tourist, no reason to believe your average Ivan is any better.

Perhaps if Russia society didn't just descend in apathy this whole mess could have been avoided. They took the easy way out, now it's time to pay. It was one thing when it was someone else doing the fighting, but now when it'

Exactly. Most of them are brainwashed. And it's just gonna get worse. Russia is out of the picture for decades to come.

Well, they'll have an opportunity to rethink their views in Ukraine. Germany was a militaristic society once. They aren't anymore.

My nation state exterminated Jews and other nationalities in WW2. I do feel a bit of responsibility and shame. Putin didn't appear in vacuum. He is a product of his society. Every Russian out there is to blame for this war.

Exactly. It's your companies money at stake and by keeping the boss happy I get to take a part of that money home with me. It is a financial transaction in the end. Plus I get to see the downsides of another crappy approach and in the

I have zero interest in getting on my boss' bad side. I will definitely express my opinion and that is enough for me. If the higher up still pushes for doing things his way, so be it. I did my part.

There are a few differences between you having to wait and a Soviet having to wait for a car multiple years: * You most probably already have a car and just want a newer model. A Soviet citizen just had a bike. * Soviet citizen had one or t

I don't work with COBOL but.I had my fair share of old legacy codebases. I sometimes think about how this crappy codebase first started out. Somebody somewhere had to write the first line of code. Was it exciting for them? Was it a sun

It's really nice that you care so much. I had a similar problem, worried everything around me might come tumbling down. This was 10 years ago. Over time I just stopped caring and started living my life. Then war in Europe broke out and

When you make a change to your job/status you can make it so it doesn't get propagated to the rest of your network. I keep all my status changes quiet for the exact same reason as you would like.

I love people like that. They have a whole philosophy constructed around this and that. I laugh at the amount of thought that went into the reasoning why they would rather not have kids. When they start dishing out these little nuggets of w

There is nothing less selfish than havint kids. The amount of sacrifice you have to put in is huge. If you are not on board with that, don't have kids.

Once you realize work is work and not some romantic endeavour, then things become easier. All I read from this guy's post is a lot of bitching about how the work he has to do is meaningless and hard and it is just getting in the way of

It's pays off to be rich. Not having to work is a luxury. I love money too much to simply take a year off, even if I could afford it. I would think about the opportunity cost the entire time. Maybe I just haven't had a proper burn
