Interestingly, I've had the opposite experience. Working from home full-time means an office, which is an extra room. One per person, if you have a partner (open office is acceptable at the office, not at home!) and this means a couple

Irish cost of living is much, much higher than Berlin though, so I think overall the Berlin dev would be coming out ahead, at least this was the case until 2021 when everything exploded in terms of cost of living.

Did you keep some coins for later and sell near the peak in 2017 or 2021? If not, do you wish you had?

More supply is the answer, though. Possibly along with land value tax or vacancy rules. Eg, in Germany if an apartment is owned by a company as opposed to a private person, it is not allowed to stay vacant for no good reason. Cashflow is th

In some places it is actually illegal to install an AC at home. For example in Switzerland. Unsure about Germany.

Merkel adopted the anti-nuclear stance to take votes from the Greens, and her administration accelerated the shutdown of Germany's nuclear power plants after Fukushima. Don't blame the Greens, although I do think they are a dogmat

You can be happy working at a lower salary, doesn't mean that its not exploitative or that it distorts the labor market. Especially with the knowledge that the company holds your residency in their hand.

Waiting 30 minutes after dropping off bags, checking in and going through security and walking miles to your gate is the absolute best case scenario in a metropolitan city-sized airport. It is really not comparable to getting to the train

Its mostly car culture in the US that is to blame. The freeway network in the US would have had the same problems but it was pushed through due to political will.

I took a look a few times at Berlin->Geneva, and it would have cost more by car adding in mileage costs and gas, vs. train especially if the train booking was not last minute. That advantage vanishes when you have more than 1 occupant in

Hyperloop was a fantasy project pitched by Elon so that he could continue selling more cars. The same way the big Auto companies of the early 1900's bought up railroads and trams and then tore them up, to sell more cars.

What I am most afraid of is that people won't cut their usage and we'll run out halfway through the winter. There should be a maximum that you can use and the rest is charged at a higher rate to deal with the situation. Meanwhile,
