I had the exact opposite reaction. I know that not many people interact with their community outside of a tweet so it could seem like a rare problem but this API makes it easier to interact which should make interacting on this level less

Yes, I'm in love with their sorting algorithm. That's why I was particularly interested in seeing what appears to be deviations in it. However, I'm probably just seeing things.

I'm looking at the sort rank of questions on reddit and they don't exactly feel right. I can't pin point it except to say that a question with 59 upvotes posted 58 minutes ago is ranking higher than a question with 620 upvotes posted 60 mi

There is much ado in the REST world about whether one API is more restful than another. For us, our REST API was designed from our experience as consumers of other REST API's. Our whole philosophy wasn't about what was true-rest but rat

It's hard to believe that those crazy stories will happen to you and I know I didn't expect GoDaddy to burn me when I used them in 2009 for the red balloon DARPA challenge. I had been out ranking the official DARPA site for weeks on every m

Just a guess but if I were to write it, I would create a table of points that map to a qwerty keyboard then map to a word. Then I would prerender as many words as I can to seed this table. The algorithm would be about probability of sha

Throughout history, there seems to be a number of personalities willing to claim that there are, "not that many ideas left." I can't find it within myself to ever agree with them. There are so many things left to do that no one has done b

That's totally fair. Here, have an upvote. :) EDIT: I changed the evaluation to not make the avg karma relative to total karma but instead to the median value of average karma of all users. The downside to this is that Median(AvgKarma)

This is true, but it is a problem that currently exists. For orthogonality's sake, I would suggest that if most of your posts come from 1:1 conversations, post by post, then perhaps there is a better medium to communicate with that person t

Actually, karma is very good market indicator for any board and filter bubbles tend to be specific to filtering out certain types of content. This won't be filtering anything by content.

You're right but because it's logarithmic, the difference is nominal and evaporates as a new member makes more posts. Plus, what is the downside to encouraging new members to post?

How about a mathematical reward system for new threads? Something like: Vote Value = (Log[base:Median(AvgUserKarma)](AvgUserKarma)) * (Log[base:(25)](ThreadTop50Rank + 1)) That way if you contribute something great in a new thread and some
