There is a Techcrunch article where AT&T disavows any actions in this regard. (As always, take with grain of salt. Gruber says its AT&T's fault, etc etc) http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/07/29/att-dont-blame-us-for-t...

I find this view disappointing. RMS (famously) remarked that he uses open source software, even if there is a superior closed source version because by using it, he can contribute to an open ecosystem. When I look at the mobile phone market

The better touchscreen may actually just be a better corrective dictionary... It seems reasonable to me that some Googler got to write a mapreduce for thumb-type correction.

What you're saying may be/probably is true. But I don't think it does much to detract from my point. Facebook probably wishes they could target ads given all their demographic information. They probably want to be able to help users make de

I guess though similar arguments could be made for many academic journals, pay-walled sites and things like the deep web. I don't think facebook is really something that is to be worried about except as an example of a broader problem.

You can actually open a new emacs window in a different screen. So the cool use is to have someone login to their machine on their laptop, open emacs, then have them spawn a new window in the running X server. Yay emacs.

I use both because apparently I like to waste money. I have dual 20" and 24" hooked up on my desktop (which has a totally sweet humanscale keyboard tray) as well as a 12" thinkpad tablet. When I'm sitting at my desk, I feel pretty awesome,

Anecdote time: I have a friend at Google who started there as basically a glorified tech while he was attending a community college (so, no degree at all). Google has been paying for large chunks of his tuition, enabling him to scrape toget

Are m3u files enough? Or do you actually want things like smart playlists? Because I think everyone supports m3us as well. I recognize other people use their computers differently. I'm just kind of disappointed that so many things are bound

Similar things actually work on babies. That is, if you respond immediately when a baby starts crying it will learn to cry when it needs attention. If you let it cry for a bit, the baby will learn not to do that. (This is actually not as un

Hm, actually I said that because the first time I read Cyberdyne I just thought it was something Orwellian, and used the powers of Google to realize it was from Terminator. (And I'm too young to have seen any movies with HAL in them ;))

No, the problem is really that information disclosure is very tricky. The very fact that you get the notice "you were domain squatting on X" is actually useful for exploits. Whats the line where Google considers something domain squatting?
