What has been the value of being on TC for you? I've had a number of startups get their post on TC, which resulted in tons of clicks on our homepage, and basically nothing beyond that. These startups ranged from VC funded to boot strap, and

I find that this means there is an ambiguity between "I have not read this email" and "I am working on this" Also, certain things that need to be done can be done by multiple people, so a "I am working on it" email is a good locking mechani

In fact I strongly suggest you consider ntfslink ( http://elsdoerfer.name/=ntfslink ) which provides a nice UI for doing all this in explorer. As far as I can tell, reparse points for directories will usually work perfectly well for most of

Just in case anyone ever wants to be cool like me, I actually sync all my email using Windows Mail (yah, I know, I'm not very cool), which means it shows up in my desktop search as well as in gmail. Just in general, the backup strategy of s

Webmail is, I think, a substantially "easier" problem (with the caveat that this is mainly for technically proficient users) I use gmail for email hosting but it all routes through a domain I control, so if Google one day goes crazy, I can

I feel its the sort of thing where there are pros and cons, and really, convincing people to change the way they collaborate online is a lofty enough goal as is, without needing to change the way people use scrollbars.

Rhino is a mature project, so at least for my purposes, this was actually a bit more important than performance. The other thing is that it allowed my team to rewrite pieces into Java as needed without it looking dramatically different.

I was chatting with some scribd folks today, and apparently they wanted to organize this because rubyconf was going on?

I'm using Rhino on the JVM. Imagine writing Java code, without having to type classnames all the time and you have a rough approximation of what its like. (And yes, you can import arbitrary Java bits into Rhino. It is "freaking sweet")

I would like to think that Google Code really should not call out whether a project is an official Google project. Ideally all open source projects would live and die on their own merits.

I'm pretty sure Twitter is "guaranteed delivery", but thats just my naive user expectation. Poking, while needing to be reliable is a 1:1 activity, so light on writes and easy to read, whereas broadcasting is difficult because of the wide v

I think its a bit interesting that everyone is criticizing the "instant typing" when in the original presentation they almost immediately said that they were going to have the option to turn it off. It seems a neat feature but its not exact

Minor nitpick: You probably don't want to set "everyone", but instead add your particular user. Wouldn't want my roommates rummaging in my stuff uninvited!

I believe actually that 'this' points to the global object. So if there is no obvious thing for this to point at, it'll point at the global object. Its just implementation detail that in browsers it points to the window object.
