My environment isn't "badly lit". I just don't want bright, flickering light blasted into my eyes at my expense. I even block natural light using sunglasses when I go outside! Once upon a time I stared at the Sun for a s

Here's an aspect of this I never see mentioned: DARK MODE SAVES BATTERY on mobile devices. The screen uses energy to emit light. The less light it has to emit, the less energy it needs. The longer your battery lasts.

All the unfinished work begins to come together as a coherent whole, at some point. Concepts join, ideas merge, good parts stay and not so good parts fall off. Everything you've ever started is leading up to something. It'll come.

I disagree - that just leads to learning to distract oneself. The most effective method in my experience is to do nothing instead of the thing you want to stop doing. Literally, stop the thing you're doing, do not transition into doing

I will most certainly not hand something as vital to me as my notes to some unrealiable cloud provider that advertises "no commitments" and provides no guarantees for persistence! A colleague fell for this kind of thing and lost e

How about public transport? It makes a substantial difference that I can pull up the route suggestion and station timetable from my pocket always-on always-connected supercomputer to know to the minute when I need to start tieing my shoes t

That's also the difference between raster and vector modeling of virtual geometry. There is an area on a graph where one literally takes less space on a computer's memory than the other, for representing essentially the same infor

So what about subatomic particle scale? Would it look like particles spontaneously appearing and disappearing? Quantum tunneling through obstacles? (they actually went around in another dimension)

Actually your simple reduction doesn't hold, which is the very reason I stopped playing Animal Crossing: If you perform NO input, the game STILL responds. i.e. If you don't play, the game still simulates its world. Weeds grow, tow

Far too low for what, exactly? Buying real estate, cars, expensive clothing, huge TVs and investments? If you suddenly lose a well-paying job, food and housing still cost the same for everyone, which you can afford on UBI, by design. You&#x

Yes. And the "universal" part makes it UNCONDITIONAL on receive, which is the important part. It removes the necessity for a government institution to decide per individual how much they are eligible for. Much money is saved. Sinc

Well, I don't know. A decent tablet goes for $300. I could see myself paying +33% for significantly increased battery life. On mobile devices, the screen eats most of the battery charge, therefore also contributing most to the battery&

There would also be less food waste if the stores just, you know, gave away the products about to spoil to people who, you know, aren't rich enough to be picky about their bananas.

Your water simulation example isn't impressive. It doesn't splash nor wave. It's just a simple rippling, refracting surface.
