I don’t remember how I joined but my profile is apparently older than the official launch date according to Wikipedia? Anyway, I used it heavily for a few years, then pretty much stopped entirely in 2012. And like you I’ve continued to rack

Rust 1.0 came out 6 years ago. There’s no need to sow confusion by referring to pre-1.0 code here.

I just tried out the i3 repo linked at the bottom of the blog post, and uh wow. Here we have what looks like an X Window session, accessible via (presumably) VNC embedded into the browser, running a custom tiling window manager (i3), with x

If you want them on Replit, go add them to Nixpkgs. Edit: Searching for Vue, I mostly find Vue.js. Since you said programming language, are you talking about what seems to be an esoteric language for programming probe traces on an AIX? htt

So much this. I’ve been setting up a new computer recently, first time in a while, and in the process I’ve been moving a bunch of stuff into Nix that was previously ad-hoc, specifically so I don’t have to remember about this again (and espe

I’m a huge fan of Nix, and this looks like an absolutely fantastic way to use Nix.

Honestly, the Arc<Mutex<T>> approach is the right one here. We need to hand out shared references, and that’s what that is. Otherwise there’s a ton of bookkeeping, and throwing exceptions in code that could otherwise reasonably

I’m of the opinion that all you should validate is that there is an @, the text to the right side (of the final @) is a well-formed dotted DNS domain, and that there exists at least one (non-whitespace) character to the left of the (final)

FWIW, iOS has the “scan documents” feature built-in. You can trigger it from Notes, and then save the resulting PDF wherever you want.

I haven’t checked out Denite yet. I’ve been using Unite, and I understand Denite is supposed to be better, but also requires you to do all of the configuration yourself.

Why does this page declare Safari to be the easiest browser to exploit, when it also says it uses the same technique as it does in Firefox (and does not describe any scheme flooding protection in Firefox)?

Given that Rust isn’t C, the answer is Rust has a compiler intrinsic for bswap and it calls that as appropriate. LLVM will then turn that into the correct instruction(s) for the target platform.

This really needs an explanation of how the “UUID” is generated. What properties does it have? How secure is it against attackers?

Homebrew and MacPorts don't add the quarantine flag to the software they're installing. If you're getting Gatekeeper alerts for software installed this way, then something else must be going on.

I love this so much! It’s a really helpful demonstration of how to do Kernel stuff in Rust with Nix, using a ridiculous shitpost idea, and it’s written in a very enjoyable way. I’m just annoyed that I hadn’t run across their blog before now

This article says you can back up your database by just copying it, as it’s a single file (and apparently copying it while it’s in use is fine?). It also suggests enabling WAL mode. But WAL mode means you now have two files. Does the use of
