Even more generally, two vectors are orthogonal if their inner product is zero. This is why the word "perpenidcular" is not used, as sometimes your vectors don't really have "directions" in the intuitive sense of the word (e.g. the inner pr

How is it easy to guess? The number it generates does not at all appear to be a function of the number of keys already assigned.

It's somewhat simple. You just design the finite-state table and either use a ROM (microcode) or some sort of hardwired logic to implement it. I'm glossing over a lot of stuff here, but a simple CPU is just that, simple.

True, depending on what you mean by "bit". I'm not sure it is entirely trivial to interconnect the instruction-parsing parts, and memory operations might also be interesting. The ALU would be pretty simple, but you'd lose a lot of speed the

Like many things, Stats is a vast field. Would you call a class about the basics of groups and rings anything other than an intro to abstract algebra, even though most places require both calculus and a fair amount of mathematical backgroun

There was an article in the NYT (I think it may be mentioned above) that discussed this. It appeared on slashdot, and I remember being quite aggravated at comments akin to 'Maybe they just don't want to', as the article explicitly dealth wi

Looking at the man page for memcpy, it states that it is explicitly for non-overlapping memory areas. Depending on implementation, then, it might even be "correct" behavior to leave the array in an inconsistent state (if the results are not

So, if you pay attention to history, you can see that there isn't actually a predisposition which affects this. In the 1980's, about half[1] of computer scientists were women. Now? 10-20%. Something is being done, and it is being done wrong

More nerve endings in teeth mean it's harder to eat if you get decay or are eating something hard. Given the state of dental hygiene back in the day, it makes some sense.

One issue that I see with that is that sometimes even software engineers can benefit from a theory course (e.g., algorithms), which requires a whole bunch of other theory to really understand. And then you're back where you started, because

No. You do not understand conditional probability. You have made a few simplifying assumptions. One, that the pmf of picking an number is uniform, and two, that the two choices are independent. WLOG the first person is male (ease of pronoun

PAE does have some benefits for x86 (admittedly, they also exist in amd46 IIRC). The big one (aside from virtual memory space) is the NX bit. You can set regions of memory noexec. Imagine doing this to things like the stack, or the heap. Do
