You're right, this is a long way from Nielsen ratings. Online media is definitely not cable. What the NYT is offering is no different than what Facebook or Google is offering. You're paying with your personal information to consu

That's kind of tricky, because wouldn't that expose business data to competitors? I'm not sure we're entitled to that right as a user. The NYT is providing us content in exchange for analytics on how we use their site o

Learn how to touch type. I've worked with many programmers who don't know how to touch type. Anyone who uses a keyboard for more than an hour a day should learn to. It only takes about 2 weeks to learn all the keys, but it's

Watching this is really heartwarming. It's inspiring to see young talented minds directed towards curiosity and engineering while also sharing the fruits of their labor for everyone else to benefit. Kudos to the team!

I've got a really naive/dumb question for you. Could you use a CPAP machine as a poor man's ventilator? Would it be better than nothing? There's definitely a ton of CPAP machines out there.

Most vaccines take 1.5 to 2 years to develop. By then most of the population will have been infected by it and will develop a natural immunity or resistance to it.

I used to do this too. You know instead of cold-turkey with withdrawal symptoms you can just gradually lower your intake. On the first day or of the break I'll just drink half the amount I normally drink. Then by day 2 I'll drink

I'm Vietnamese and I was born and still live in Canada. My body has adapted to the cold quite well and I prefer it over the summer heat. This makes me feel that ancestry is not a part of cold resistance.

I doubt it's a chicken/egg problem. There's too much evidence that our obesity problem is caused by excess caloric intake.

Mentally and physically human beings are "anti-fragile". Applying the right amount of load and stress to ourselves we become less fragile. Too little and we don't grow. Too much and we break. Do something uncomfortable. Fail

Using print is sometimes superior to pdb. If you want to quickly see how the program runs without stepping through each line print is justified. This looks like an evolved print. Nice tool!

The antagonist was a huge disappointment for me. Spoiler: In the original the antagonist is basically the singularity, a new form of life born from code. In the remake? Oh, her ex boyfriend.

Exactly. The total running time of the remake was more than the original movie, yet somehow said a lot less. Aside from the visuals, the movie was embarassingly mediocre.
