The phrase "the harvest" is used at least two times in this piece in a similar way: But it didn’t take long for CEOs to divine the wisdom of a viewpoint that hit them where they lived, in their wallets. The harvest has been decad

Nice, I had not heard of GFA Basic. I'm somewhat of a BASIC afficiando, what was most compelling about it, in your opinion (those who used it?) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GFA_BASIC

My in laws do this thing were children are mostly ignored. When adults are talking or watching tv, the adults should not be interrupted. In practice they ignore other adults most of the time too. Very boarish, dysfunctional people in genera

Although we have a lot of toddler/kids books ourselves, probably 100-150 (a lot inherited from nieces/nephews), the majority are from the library. Our local branch has a fairly extensive kids/toddler section. There are a fair

Both of our kids are very verbal, they were speaking very clear sentences when a lot of their peers where barely intelligible for example. We are constantly amazed at their vocabulary and clever turns of phrase they come up with on their ow

Most of those who actually have a non-trivial attempt at it think they're doing it because they're working with a large amount of data and doing "backtesting", but that's well below table stakes. Can you define &q

The vast majority don't job hop though, it's cheaper to address it one off as you observe, rather run up salary on the majority who're "eating the crumby cheese till it's all gone"[1]. In my personal network I&

Did sandboxing factor into the equation? My understanding is lua scripts in redis aren't sandboxed, other than the (possibly?) restricted api. But one could limit heap with a custom allocator for example, and cpu cycles with a hook, if

I've had a project in mind for several years now that would be ideal for injection molding plastic parts, the only problem is a $10-20k in mold creation would take a long time to pay off and become profitable for a niche product (lego

The other thing I found was that drinking and driving was not as much of a problem, just take the train/bus when you're going to be drinking. It's odd how this is never part of the discussion.

In my opinion, the decades of novels in between star wars movies where much better than the prequels and sequels we eventually got. At varying times, different novels were canon then not canon. But in the end, Lucasfilm jettisoned the lot.

But to be fair this doesn’t really install COBOL on your computer. GnuCOBOL is a transpiler that parses COBOL and converts it to C before compiling it. This feels a bit like cheating. This is curious statement, what is cheating about it?
