Wow. I cant believe how simple the building of a custom kernel has become. I fiddled with this 15 years ago and it all seemed very unapproachable at the time. Great writeup, thats going straight to bookmarks.

As an aside. How do you get design-chops like that? Can it be learned, or are these people just born with a flair for picking styles that work well universally?

Im excited to see Rust use more and more for webdevelopment, certainly some interest prospects. Im a little disappointed to see the amount of boilerplate in the examples. The Todo app is infinitely-5 longer than the Clojurescript example.

What a great talk, loved everything about that era. When I was 14 I made my first virus/prank. It would increment a counter every time input was sent to the PS/2 port, ie. keyboard. Once it hit 2000 strokes it would switch to 80x5

Clever - You might be interested in Clojurescripts Reagent, which is a React wrapper that gives you a lot of memoization for free. Re-doing this in cljs would be a great learning exercise.

Its a genuine question. Back in the day (90s) there were actual wars being fought between Emacs and VIM where the strongest argument against Emacs was that its somewhat bloated taking up a lot more disk space than Vim. That argument is no l

Great piece. I have to admit I'm a bit of a fan when it comes to both Friedman and Sowell. They seem to have the rare gift of understanding subjects so well and intuitively that they can explain those subjects more plainly than anyone
