The article says the Netflix adaptation isn't available in China, and that they are watching it through vpns or piracy. There have been domestic adaptations of it, that I assume are generally available.

Something we do often is need to fetch metadata from a centralized service for some kind of data before sending the original data + the metadata to an ml inference server. The call to the fetch the metadata and the call to the ml model woul

I use grpc at work for service to service interaction (there are many many services). The generated code, really gets rid of a lot of effort, and keeps clients and servers in sync. It makes streaming pretty easy too. There are also nice too

I am curious what the motivating use case was for creating this? Where did things break down with other tools?

Yes. I primarily am interested in removing hardware (and its related software) I don't use. Things like user facing camera and most of the back facing cameras; ml processing hardware. I would pay for it with just those things removed,

When I was growing up, my friends and I recognized something about different groups of people. If everyone in your friend group has been to jail, the chance of you going is higher than normal. Pushing away everyone deemed to be stupid will

I have been running Wayland with nvidia drivers for ~1.5yrs as my daily driver. I haven't had any issues with lutris (primary means that I use to install games) or with wine underneath.

I feel like this could benefit from more detail on this page, or perhaps link an about page. Its not apparent if this would work for private apis, and it seems like locally running apis would be out of the question. The local case is the pr

I think that depends. One of the advantages that the jdk offers is jit. I haven't seen the inside of netflix, but I am guessing it is similar to other big tech companies where they have a large portion of there instances on all the tim

Gmail is a huge data source for their ad business. They use it to fingerprint people all over the web (sign in with google). I imagine they see it as essential to their ad stack.

This was such a great post. I read last years as well, and it was super interesting to see how things evolved. I am curious about your ad spend. I noticed that it dropped 24%. Can you talk about your strategy for marketing your business?

Hey Tony, from my perspective, I think there are a couple things at play with peoples sentiment about Medium. I think part of it is how aggressive the monetization is. That isn't to say that your competitors, and a huge swathe of publi

Can you share which vendors you looked and which one you chose? Just curious what pros/cons you considered and who the right puzzle piece for you is :)

It will be interesting to see what kind of effect this will have. I wonder if it will lower the temperature or if another form of rage bate will find its way there.

I have a few colleagues that develop on windows. They all work in a WSL2 environment, and it seems like they really like it. It seems like they have good compatibility with linux dev environments with the bits of windows they like.

No, nor do I use cli flags or config files. I put everything in a secret manager. In the end I think it has a better DX if the app can use the devs local credentials to transparently interact with that secret manager. It creates an audit lo

That sounds like you are being disingenuous. Smoking sections haven't been a thing in the US for a long time (I went to the last one I could find around 2009). Waste from single use vapes is also a huge problem. Similarly there are hea

On the otherhand, I think you could argue that it is something to strive for in more systems. The longer our devices can last the less ewaste we generate. It may not be the easiest to secure, but it isn't impossible.
